How do I know this? I was watching the entire fucking omnishambles leading up to the election, and the ceaseless tirade against Trump and his fans. I freely admit I participated in that tirade as well. Guess what? He still got elected. "We" lost. "They" won.

How's about for once, just for the hell of it, we sit down and talk to "the other side" and see what they have to say, exchange ideas peacefully? It's so easy to divide ourselves by lines of race, political views, religion, class, gender and sexuality, and it's fucking difficult to keep a civil conversation going with those who you see as the enemy.
I'm gonna try to take the hard route more often, 'cause look where the fucking easy road got us. Then maybe we can stop fighting amongst ourselves and focus our energy on taking down the rich cunts who benefit from our squabbling.

Pretty much yeah - but not quite in the way you might be thinking. His victory was a pretty massive shock to my system, it shook me out of quite a comfortable, arrogant even, place mentally. Over the past few days I've done a lot of thinking, and in hindsight of course he won. I was a blind fool for not seeing it, mea culpa.
I'm saying it because I was so very sure Clinton was going to win, so right now I'm undergoing a mental 180 in how to approach and deal with this movement that frankly speaking, scares the shit out of me. I believe a change of tack is in order, so that both left and right are no longer screaming at each other with the usual levels of hatred.

Calling them nazis seems to be working fine.  They're positively losing their shit, turning themselves into babbling idiots.  I know, I know..."but they won the election".  There's no safeguard, in a land of babbling idiots, against one of their own becoming king idiot. They won't go away if you use nice words either. Besides, how will they ever realize that they're nazis if no one makes them aware? Introspection and empathy aren't exactly what trump supporters have made themselves known for. There's no negotiating our way around them. Things won't change unless they do. You'll only find yourself being pulled. Drifting, if you will, towards their positions by diplomatic concession....and we see where that got us.

Trump lies. Trump slings mud. Trump has flip flopped on numerous issues. Trump has done many things to pander to his demographic in order to get more votes. Trump tells the working class  that he is their voice! Trump promises change. Trump is a politician through and through. Trump is also one of the richest people on this planet and you folks say he's not part of the 'establishment?' What world do you people live in? And Trump can't be swayed by money? Why because rich people are so notorious for not being greedy?

Let's not even get into all of the quasi-racist shit he's said. His mocking of a reporter with a disability. His very open degradation of women. His egomaniacal tendencies, including his fragile sense of self and his need to attack anyone who criticize him. His denial of climate change. His denial of Obama as a legitimate U.S. citizen. His open admission of tax evasion. His lies about how he got his fortune. Etc. etc. etc.

Welcome to history. It's always inevitable in hindsight. That's why it happens.

Which makes you wonder what unthinkable things will happen next which will be seen as being inevitable by historians.

To figure that out, maybe we should look at the history books and compare what's happening now with the most similar situation in the past.

Society doesn't arbitrarily flip flop. Trends happen over many years until something forces society to take a different direction. Look at the general trend of the last couple of decades and you can extrapolate to a point where it it will try something else.

The trends towards authoritarian government and corporatism have been happening since the collapse of the Iron Curtain in 1989 and they still have a way to go.
