Criminal Corporate Bastards

RE: Criminal Corporate Bastards
If the taxpayers got to vote on this shit maybe it wouldn't be so bad but that's not the way it works.  And when it doesn't work that way then we are left to wonder which city or league officials have been bribed.... and bribes can come in many forms.

This bullshit that entire cities are somehow embodied in pro sports teams is absurd.  These fucking owners only care about sucking every dollar they can get out of the public.

Some cities, maybe. Green Bay, Pittsburgh, New York, Dallas--these cities are overwhelmingly happy with their major sports franchises.

It turns out shit when a team has a great couple of years like SF , builds a stadium, and then proceeds to go right back to sucking ass.

Meanwhile, Dallas, New York, Minnesota, and Indianapolis all have new stadia and you don't hear a lot of complaints.

My team is as embroiled in Pittsburgh as you can be. The Rooneys have been in Pittsburgh for over a hundred years and are as much a fabric of that city as anyone could be.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

No qualifier necessary-- Robert Irsay was widely regarded as a piece of shit, even without the hypocrisy.

Now, I am tempted to correct you by pointing out that Jim Irsay is not his father.  But as I understand it, in at least a few ways he is very much his father.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

There were protests against both Yankee Stadium and Citi Field because of the bullshit involved in the financing.  The protests were quashed by the cops and ignored by the media and the rich whores who made a killing off it.

Widely proclaimed that the Mets and Yanks were paying for their own stadiums themselves the fact is that they are paying off tax free municipal bonds and getting off on the real estate taxes for the property the stadiums sit on and city sales taxes.  In addition, the taxpayers got stuck paying for infrastructure improvements....which included indoor parking garages so rich fucks wouldn't have to get their cars wet.

These things are a tad more complicated than one would get listening to the press releases.

By the way, the politicians trumpeted that Yankee Stadium would create 6,500 construction jobs ( over the 4 year process ) and 1,000 "permanent" jobs.... doing such things as selling hot dogs 82 days out of the year.

Yes, well I'm always gonna be jaded because of what the owner did. I'm from Baltimore and remember it all too well, like I said.
