Why are Christians so edgy about the paranormal

Why are Christians so edgy about the paranormal
I remember growing up my parents would always tell me to never view anything paranormal related because apparently "it's Satan".

I don't quite understand; seems that Christians would welcome anything paranormal with open arms seeing as it's really no different than what the foundations of Christianity are.

Forbidden in Scripture.

Familiar spirits are a no-no.

And "thou shan't suffer a witch to live" garners some respect, although then as now, Christians don't realize a 'witch' is actually ANY woman practicing any religion (or none, of course) other than The One True Faith.

And as for not tolerating the paranormal stuff, they don't get their undies in much of a wad over horoscopes, and Nancy Reagan certainly got a 'pass' for consorting with an actual witch, and those giving her a pass were all big name Fundamentalist and Evangelical leaders. Go figure.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

It's a religion of carrot and stick. Without fear, the religion would crumble.

Oh, and that 'other Gods' thing.

The Abrahamic God is a wee bit touchy about competition. Not so much about schisms though . . . .

It_Was_me,

The accepted beliefs of the Bronze and Iron Age cult of Christianity is paranormal on steroids!  Therefore, any pseudo-christian should accept paranormal
events as a sign of their serial killer Yahweh/Jesus/Spirit god since he had so much practice in performing paranormal events in their primitive Judeo-Christian bible.

One of my all time favorites, that obviously proves Christianity beyond any doubt, is when a donkey talks: "….. then the LORD opened the donkey's mouth, and she said
to Balaam, "What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?" Balaam answered the donkey, "You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand,
I would kill you right now." (Numbers 22:21-29)

As if the talking snake in the creation narratives wasn't funny enough!  LOL

"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Because knowing they have selected their audience for particular suspectibility to any whiff of crank and cant,  influence tricksters are particularly wary of other influence tricksters selling different variations of the same con?

Makes for a great first date!

My mother thought that reading or watching stuff like that was akin to inviting evil spirits to haunt you. Then again, as a fundamentalist Christian, the list of things that were akin to inviting evil spirits to haunt you was extremely long. I loved horror as a kid, in spite of the fear of demonic spirits that my religion had instilled in me, and watched and read as much of it as I could. I never did run into any evil spirits, though.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
