Milo Yiannopoulos; the man twitter banned got a book deal. Currently #2 on Amazon.

All I said was Milo hasn't debunked the wage gap. I'm sorry you used the word debunked incorrectly? I wasn't here to argue semantics, I thought that you might actually have an argument that attempts to falsify the wage gap. That would have been really really cool.

It depends what you mean when you say 'wage gap' as to whether it's been proven false or not.

If you mean to say that women are paid less than men by virtue of sexism, that's literally non falsifiable. It's non falsifiable because sexism is a state of mind, and reading minds is impossible. There are instances in which a man and a woman, working the same position, are not paid the same salary. The person employing them would tell you the one making more is more efficient - or give off a myriad of other reasons as to why the higher-paid one is justified in receiving more. They'll tell you everything other than that it's because they're a sexist, and maybe they'd be lying in doing so. One can't know. However, just because we don't conclusively know, we don't get to just assert any explanation we want - that would be a 'god of the gaps fallacy.'

If you mean to say that if you add up all the money women make into a pile, and add up all the money men make into a pile, that the mens pile will be larger; yes, that is true, and nobody objects that this is true. This truism isn't synonymous with, "men make more money than women for the same work because of sexism", though. And if this is what one means, using the term 'wage gap' would be disingenuous. It would be more accurately described as an 'earnings gap.'

This is a pretty interesting perspective.  I'm not sure I agree with the statement that it's non-falsifiable.  At least not in the same sense that god is non-falsifiable.  Behavior and states of mind are always being correlated to one another in order to diagnose patients, e.g. psychopathy.  How effective that is, might be questionable, but I don't know enough to comment on that either way.

In response to the god of the gaps fallacy part of the first paragraph, I think that is fair.

I also agree with the last paragraph as well.  But I think when people talk about the wage gap, that is not what they are talking about.

As far as I can tell, when people talk about the wage gap, their are two issues that they are trying to address.  The first issue and the more controversial issue, is to address if men are paid more than women for equal work solely because they are men.  The second issue, as I understand it, is addressing why men make more money on the whole, and if these reasons can be defined as a difference in preferences between men and women, or as something else.

E.g. Did SAT format potentially hold women back from applying to STEM programs.

Milo is an example of modern celebrity. His popularity has nothing to do with any intelligence or talent of any kind. Like the various "housewive of..." programs.

With this particular celebrity, it's his appearance as a gay liberal while speaking as a conservative that provides the "hook" leading to his popularity. As far as I've seen, he has no original thoughts of his own but merely makes points that other conservatives have thought out. He gets allot more traction with the underclass though just because of the "hook" mentioned above as well as his delivery which amounts to replacing cogent discussion with bitchiness.

In this way, he is  a marketing campaign for conservative ideology rather than an actual formulator of ideas and he is spreading these ideas to people who normally don't watch or listen to "boring" political discussions.
If god was real he wouldn't need middle men to explain his wants or do his bidding.

Nah, you're just projecting mate, nobody gives a shit if he's gay or if he's a conservative. He speaks sense. He quotes studies and form informed opinions. I didn't even know how full of fake and propaganda the infamous wage gap was before I listened to Milo. Also, don't give me that shit about him being an asshole, yeah sure he is at times but if you go on YouTube and look for Milo Yiannopoulos debates you'll see that it is the liberals he is debating that is almost always the assholes while he always speaks on point. He's fabulous.

I think it's partly both. I did say it myself before that him being gay is almost like a marketing thing. It is what sets him apart from being the typical run-of-the-mill conservative (who is typically a heterosexual white man or sometimes woman) and it gets people listening. I also agree and have pointed out that he's a provocative buffoon who does say outrageous shit to wind people up. It's catty, it grabs your attention, and it can admittedly be very funny in my opinion.

You are right as well though, he does expose the worst in the Left. When you have situations where people will turn up and literally shout over him, or in one case bring a blowhorn to drown him out, it just shows how bad the Left have become on debating. We've really sunk that low as a society, to where we can't just let someone say what they have to say, and then if we have any confidence in our own arguments to come up with a real rebuttal. That's serious.

I can see what some people saw about this alt-Right movement also mirroring the people they claim to oppose though. There is identity politics and oversensitivity on the Right too. I'm just hoping we're going to see the rise of a strong centrist movement soon to bring some mainstreaming of rationality back.

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable."

Don't you love it when someone shows the worst of the Left by being the worst of the Right?

It's funny how people blame the spectre of left wing SJWs when the current largest cloud of locusts are the Right-focused SJW (alt-right).

You know I've never really minded Milo, to be honest though I've never listened to him much. I know his name and I've hear snippets of what he's said in clips and articles here and there, and I thought he was pretty funny, quick, and lands some good points. I listened to this whole video though, and I gotta say, I like him even more. I might see where he's speaking next. He reminds me of Hitchens.

I don't think you really understand what SJW's mean if you think Milo is a SJW for the right Lmao

If by SJW of the right you mean a calm, rational, pleasant person that forms informed opinions based on facts then yeah I guess lol but still the way you hamster it in such an angle so as to present him in a negative light is fucking hilarious to say the least

Yup. You just can't help but love the guy. Sure he can be a little bitch at times but that's what makes milo so funny and lovable. He might be my man crush lol haha
