Here's the thing,GC. You have this reaction to what is a fairly mundane assertion, then in the same virtual breath you go on to say

and you don't see a problem with that?

No I do not, it was intended to let people know they can't have proof against what I already know is true, a play on words.

GC you're the one making the claim of the existence of a fantastical being, who sent himself down to earth, exhibited fantastical powers and then was temporarily killed for to save us from himself. It is you who needs to furnish evidence not us.

And currently the evidence in favour of your god is equivalent to the evidence that you can spell, "Southern Babtist" indeed.

I don't have proof that any of the other gods that people worship are fantasy. Do they all exist as well?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I haven't heard from any of them as I have the God of the Bible. So, no. If there were other gods I would expect competition for me. My God has said, there are no other real gods and since I've not heard from any others I have no reason to doubt.

(a) Why would a god have to *say* anything?
(b) Who or what was around to hear and action the request?

He wasn't talking to anyone nor anything, He was commanding light to become a reality not just an image in his mind. He probably didn't say any words, it was probably a thought. It was written that way to give mere humans a way to understand. Not to understand his power because we can not, it was written that way so we could know God created light and that He created it for us and the rest of the universe. An omniscient mind needs no light to see all things.

GC

Sooo... why doesn't it just say, "God created light; he created it for us and the rest of the universe"? Why the extra mumbo jumbo? The fact alone that you, someone who professes to know God personally, have to use the word "probably" means the general understanding of it is pretty murky.

Creating it implies He created it for us and the universe. Saying He spoke it into existence shows the power of God. To say God wove it or hammered it would have put God and the creation on man's level. Man can speak nothing into existence, except trouble. My using "probably" was to indicate that God's reasoning is beyond me and everyone else unless He reveals his intentions.

If people only ever 'heard' from one god, then such private and personal experiences would convince everyone. But so many people also have no reason to doubt, yet believe in a different god, or a different version of your god. It seems that there is a lot of competition out there. I am confident that very few of the people who have such a firm conviction are expecting to hear from any other gods, which is curious in light of the many different experiences and outcomes.
