Tooth Fairy Bullshit

RE: Tooth Fairy Bullshit
One can tell how great chistian morals are by looking at History. Yep, they had power, yet they 'saved' a lot of people. Fire cleanses the soul or whatever they want to get apologetic over. Not mentionining christian moral codes are shamefully stolen from previous ideals.

Yes, its a tooth fairy.

That's a fair point. I would say that many other similarly advanced cultures could have developed universities and the modern scientific method but didn't. The Muslim world had the same or better cultural resources than Medieval Europe. India was an advanced civilization. China was politically stable society. As far a that goes ancient Rome had it all, but didn't take the next steps to modernity. One has to wonder why did those advances happen in an materially impoverished, plague infested, and politically unstable corner of the world and not in other cultures that could have but didn't.

Other, more basic, non-abrahamic cultures could have produced universities and hospitals....and did. The scientific method has it;s origins in classical antiquity, greece. Christians eradicated such heresies as a matter of course.

Where do you source your history?

Without even an ounce of shame they ridicule some of the best and brightest thinkers who take up a problem serious and came to serious conclusion. Kierkegaard, Hegel, Kant, Buber, Kripke, Plantinga, Newton, Leibnitz, Putman, and Godel are/were theists. That list doesn’t even include theologians, like David Bentley Hart, or physicists, like, Francis Collins or Max Planck. All brilliant.

Maybe you don’t realize this but it is possible to be an atheist without acting like an infantile little snark. It’s astonishing to me how such ass-wipes will disrespect the legacies of truly great men and women like Dr. King, Bonhoeffer, and Catherine Booth (founder of the Salvation Army) by pretending that their religious convictions did nothing to motivate and inspire them to change the world.

How can anyone seriously believe that the motivating force to build the very first hospitals is in any way comparable to believing in the tooth fairy or Santa Claus? Here in Chicago we have Mount Siani, Rush Presbyterian, Illinois Masonic, Loyola, Mercy, Saints Mary and Elizabeth, Saint Anthony...that’s just a start. They came to be because of religious convictions for which you have no respect.

I hear they believe in all sorts of deities in different parts of the world and that great people have believed in them and accomplished great things. Do you think that means their gods are not imaginary?

Tooth fairy bullshit!  He he... No arguments there...

Let's see:

Tooth Fairy: tale invented by adults to comfort children.
God: tale invented by adults to indoctrinate comfort children.

I know I'm stupid, but can someone please explain to me any real differences.
No God, No fear.

The Christian God is non-contingent, transcendent and immaterial. There is no point of comparison. It is a massive category error.

But philosophical objection wasn’t where I was going anyway. I was referring to something else. The practical of effect of theistic belief , Christianity in particular, supports the seriousness of the “God question” as opposed to other trivial speculations. Fairie-ology did not found the University system. Santa Claus worship did not motivate people to abolish slavery. Unicorn-belief did not inspire people to build hospitals.

For sure…

Secular organizations could have started the first Universities but they didn’t until after Christians did.
Secular organizations could have built the first Hospitals but they didn’t until after Christians did
Slavery has been abolished worldwide, but only after Christian nations did so first.

My point is that the moral principles that seem so obvious and basic to atheists today didn’t exist before they were believed and promoted by Christians first. Atheists just adopted them, like they have the modern scientific method which was developed by brilliant Christian thinkers based on their conviction that knowledge of the Nature Order reflected the Mind of a Rational Creator god. Beliefs do matter and if a particular set of beliefs are so strong and so powerful that they change the world dramatically and for the better, then I say, there is something fundamentally different about those beliefs.

When you say "changed[d] the world dramatically and for the better," I'm curious. Are you referring to the first, second, third or fourth crusade? Or maybe you're referring to the Inquisition? Or maybe you're referring to the mass murder between the Protestants and Catholics?

Not only are you in desperate need of a history class, you have an extremely Western-centric view of the world and seem to think that you can count all of the hits while ignoring the misses.

Yeah, I'm not accepting any of that on your say so. No uni's until christians? No medical until chirstians? Christians abolish slavery first? And no human morals until christians?

References please.
