Coincidence and the kindness of strangers

I'm glad your families needs were met, tell your mom that GC believes the same thing. I haven't heard about your dad in a while I was gone from the forum for a few months hope he is doing well.

I'm kinda mad at him the moment. (His health is quite well. He's well enough to be in big trouble with the women in the house)

I'm not going to ask why nor do I want to know, what I do know (from experience) is that's not a good thing. Very glad to hear he is doing well, from your post when he wasn't well I know you love him so don't be mad to long.

I don't suppose anyone bothered to query them about their religious leanings? LOL. I bet we would have gotten a few surprises.

I used to work at a gas station at night and when it came time to throw out the day-old donuts, I would always give them to the homeless people that hung around the area. When my boss said to stop doing that, I would put them in a paper bag and lower it gently into the trash can and one of them would grin and nod knowingly and scoop it up out of the trash, still protected by that bag, and without any liability on my employer because he's not liable if people dumpster-dive for food as opposed to me handing them stale and 'potentially dangerous' food. Generosity doesn't come from religion, and in most of these cases, it sounds like a matter of pure practicality. I hate wasting food and if I can give it to someone who wants or needs it, I'm damn well going to give it to them even if it means going behind someone's back who disagrees with the sentiment for reasons of greed and cynicism.

I think that was an admirable thing you did. As for Christianity, I've seen plenty of generosity come from Christians because they are Christians. I've also witnessed non believers being quite generous.

We're very low on grocery money this month, and we just ran into three very kind people. First an old man gave us two  dozen steaks and three gallons of apple juice because he bought too much for a family dinner. Then a trucker said a bunch of perfectly good pork roasts were going to be tossed because of some sort of filing error, and GFS didn't need the order. So he was just giving away meat. And we have nearly 300lbs of roasts in our deep freezer! And on top of it all a vender at the famer's market grew a surplus in eggplant and they weren't selling well because they were too small. Now we have a giant crate of eggplant. Mom is calling everyone and telling them we met angels. (Insert eye roll here) And while my eyes are a little round at this, it's totally just weird and people are simply better than we think they are some times. Today was weird

I'm grateful, that you had people there who could help in a time of need.

I remember when I was in Pittsburgh going to school, and having a bad day/week. I worked two jobs, in addition to going to school. Didn't have a car, so I had about a 30-40 minute walk to the mall, for one of my jobs and supplies. There was a shortcut, where I could walk down the highway ramp, and climb over a hill, to get into the back of my apartments. The one weekend it started raining as I was trudging back from the grocery store. Normally not a big deal, but this day, it just added to my mood. I still remember as I was just about to the exit of the mall, a lady stopped and offered me a ride. I said thanks and declined, but she was persistent, and even pointing out that she had her kids in the back of the mini-van, that she just wanted to help. The rain wasn't bad enough yet, that I couldn't scurry up over the hill and take the shortcut. And as I look back, my mood must have been showing in my body language and face more than I realized. I didn't take the ride, but the gesture, meant a lot to me that day; It was really what I needed at the time.

And GC, they didn't do it because they are Christians, they are doing it because they've been taught that being generous and charitable are good moral things to do. You don't get to divorce the slavery, misogyny, etc. of Christianity by painting the illusory image of kindness on there. If you're going to say someone did something because they are a Christian, then you have to explain why they don't do other things if they are. Just sayin'. Love how being a skeptic doesn't come with all that guilt baggage and need for apologetics.

The big baby he didn't make to dinner. Funny how me boycotting cooking can make a man see the light. I hate having to put my foot down in these moments but sometimes he treats me like a personal chef!

Sounds like he could be a little spoiled and I'm betting you had something to do with that, dads little girls tend to do that. Good luck with taming him.
