Are religious people selfish?

RE: Are religious people selfish?
I have missed numerous meals to ensure my son gets fed, no religion required.

Do you really think I'm so far from the average?
To do otherwise is legally considered neglect.

I don't know you personally, but a believer in God would answer that natural response itself (which atheists and theists have; alike) is a creation of God according to the theist philosophy.

We care for our kids because God made us into that.
You're not special; you're just obeying a command like breathing and feeling hungry. It's a beautiful one though.

I've met plenty of religious people who are the exact opposite of selfish. A person is selfish for different reasons. Sure there are selfish religious people out there, same could be said for Atheist too.

Genes might be God's way in passing commands.

So why bother with scripture?

I may call religious people a lot of things, but with regards to selfishness, I think they're pretty equal with the rest of us. Can't say I've noticed any more selfishness from the religious than from others, personally.

Because of the brain.

The brain is an organ responsible of logic and understanding, it also stands guard over the genes. It can make a person hold their breath under water, or make them donate blood, and in extreme cases even die for a cause or an idea.

To believe in God, is to believe in the instructions he gives us to control the gene.
