I put it down to empire mentality. The establishment still thinks it's an empire, but it isn't. It wants to continue acting as if it is one though so fools itself into thinking that it can somehow influence America to use its military might. It's also why we are renewing Trident. It gives us a seat on the security council in the UN and inflates the egos of the leaders in Westminster.
The best thing for the UK would be to break up so that it finally has to accept that it is no longer an empire and can start spending its money on its people instead of international posturing.

Imelda is actually eligible for the PM. All she has to do is live in the UK for a year, get selected for her party, get elected, get elected leader of her party, have her party become the largest at Westminster.
It's simply one more step than Hammy or Rob need take.

I always said that if Trump became president it would mean that he either starts wars with world leaders or they play like a fool by stroking his ego and getting what they want. Theresa May may be an evil authoritarian monster but she is stone cold canny. She'll know how unpopular Trump is in the UK except for the few UKippers so I reckon she's probably doing the latter and treading very carefully.
Still makes me ashamed to be British though.
