As I said in a different thread, it's one thing to admit that the U.S. has done some heinous shit. It's entirely different to use that to minimize the actions of a brutal leader that kills political dissidents because you're expressing your admiration for him.

That is one of the few things I can agree on with Trump, America is not inherently good, and honestly, has caused more suffering globally, in the last decade(s) or so then really any other nations. But that's not to excuse Trump or Putin, both I disagree on 90 percent of issues, and Putin has proven himself to be a dictator, and a human rights violator. And Trump has SAID (not done) stuff that would be equally as bad as what Putin I doing.

In what way did WW2 show that? The people on the losing side guarding the prisoners got stuck with all of the blame. The same thing happened in the American Civil War. During war the losing side doesn't have the resources to spare on large groups of enemy personnel. Consequently the guards get charged with mistreatment and abuse. The worse duty a person can get stuck with is being a POW guard, especially if your side loses.

Indeed the Japanese also didn't have other resources needed to keep prisoners. Food was particularly hard to come by as Japan by the middle of the war had none to spare .and late into the war a large portion of japans populous were starving to death.
