National Service

        What if one does not wish to serve in National Service? Say for instance you want to focus on your own career. Four years out of your life to help other in the service of the betterment of your country is a big chunk out of possible experience's you would need to advance your own needs.

4 years, 18 months, whatever the chunk is, you can opt out.  Focus on what career, though?  An uneducated 18 year old doesn't have a career, and a 20 or 22 year old makes for a better student.  

You would better off making it an option for people from lower income families. Offering  an insensitive to rise out of a lower income and acquiring a skill set which can help them benefit their country beyond the scope of being a being a tax payer and being a burden of the system.

While the burden of service would fall disproportionately on the poor by brute force of demographics...there would still be reasons for the wealthy to serve.  The same reasons that the poor would serve.  Civic pride, duty, entitlements, and ofc their own reputations (particularly if they want to get into politics or any other high profile position).  Fun fact, not too long ago, a significant number of our elected officials had served their country.

If you can rise out the system to have a future other then being on E.B.T and government assisted housing, that should the be the ultimate goal of a National Service.

The ultimate goal of a national service is to support national interests in infrastructure, health care, and education.as examples...., but yeah...if it helps people up and out of poverty that would be super swell, too.  

       If your going to use this a standard of "Federal" or "National" service, most people would remain civilians other then risking their very lives in order to gain the right to vote or other privileges.

Not a problem, there's more civilian work to do than killin needs be done. Agreed?

 If I was asked, I would decline and stay out of the political system. It always causes too many issues among the populations. There will always be brave and men who stand up will called for such duties. While the majority stay silent in order to protect themselves, first and foremost it's only rational to protect yourself. If you were in gas station, and gunshots were going off, would you do most anything to get out of their first? If you had to push an old lady into the shooter in order to save your life, would you feel guilty cause she died and you made to your car and drove off as fast as you could?

...uh.....yeah?  I'd feel like a piece of shit until the day I died.  Sure, I'd do -most- anything, but not push someone else in front of a bullet meant for me.  What the actual fuck Sterben, lol?

         Lol, I see what you mean. But, in reality most people would push and shove anyone to get out. I'm a selfish ass I know, it's just the way I am. I think for myself and act accordingly to advance myself. I'm glad you agree with me on some points though. The national service system would work great if it could help some people advance themselves out of being depended on the state. Although, I'm curious about something. If such a system was to exist, would help the under drop the under twenty five pregnancy rates?

I did ntl. service and can only recall very few instances where I had to push old ladies in front of a bus, very few. What was the question?

I would rather mandate national education for some things, we could all help our communities more if some time was set aside for mandatory first-aid and how to safeguard a vulnerable or lonely neighbour.

I don't know about a compulsory national service, but I think the draft needs to be re-instituted. Although there's no way to know, I'd bet good money that W. wouldn't have dared to take us into Iraq if there were a draft.

All of Trump's bellicosity and bluster towards China and towards other nations in general would've prevented him from ever being elected. It would have likely inspired those young people who didn't vote to get off their asses and vote against him in the name of self-preservation. All the oh-so-noble third partiers, suddenly facing the prospect of them or their kids being sent off to die, would have likely more carefully considered their vote.

Americans are falsely insulated from the negative effects of war on this country because none of them have to go. It's largely the poorest--those who need a job who end up going.

Bring back the draft and put everyone's skin back in the game.
