Question about death to Atheists.

RE: Question about death to Atheists.
Not at all, if a person actually has a precognitive ability with regards to death, of all things.......and they just sit on it, that person is an asshole.

That's the trouble with all such claims.
"God told me this would happen"
"A spirit came to me in a dream and revealed to me that this would happen"
"My psychic abilities predicted this misfortune"

"....and I did nothing with that knowledge"
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

If you found out that we did in fact have a soul, or that these phenomenons were somehow true, would you still dismiss NDEs?

It's all of a parcel. If any of these claims were verifiable, they would have implications for the plausibility of the others. But so far, none of them stand up to scrutiny: not paranormal NDE's, not ESP, no prophetic dreams, not astral travel, not ghosts, not any of it. But if I find out one of them is actually true, I'll need to re-think my stance on all of them.

So let us know when you can prove a paranormal phenomenon actually happened. I'll be very interested in that.

You're welcome.

Yes, I would say that. It's not like every time someone dies it takes a doctor to diagnose it. Sometimes it's very obvious. Plus, I'm sure there subtle cues that our brains are tuned to pick up. Our brains receive and process a lot of information that we are not consciously aware of.

It's easy, even for someone who has never encountered it before, to know when someone has died.  Yes, there are cases of mistakes being made, but usually death is plain.  I would put this down to a dream or, perhaps, wishful thinking.  There is no medical or scientific evidence that I'm aware of to back up such "visions".

To the other, I can't say.  I have experienced such a thing personally before (last year when my favourite cousin died).  I can't explain it but I won't accept that it has a supernatural origin without support for that claim.

Even if it is supernatural, that doesn't prove any particular god or religion.

In 25 years working in hospitals and long term care I have seen many, many people take their last breath. Never saw anythng unusual. I have read many accounts of witnesses using the dying processes of others to promote their agendas though.

Your experience is not indicative of everyone experience, and really has no bearing on anything other than showing you're totally ignorant of the subject matter and really shouldn't be commenting on it.

You guys claim that the default position is "I don't know", except it really isn't...

The default position for the existence of life after death is most certainly not "I don't know."

Still waiting for you to float around without your brain, Huggy, and tell me about the afterlife.

Oh, so you can prove an afterlife doesn't exist?

Did I say that? It must be so hard living with such a simplistic way of viewing things. I sure would like to see you prove it exists, though. If you're so certain it does, I don't know why you are so reluctant to take the trip there.

I may not be able to prove it flat out, but studies very, very strongly suggest that there is an not afterlife to the point that it's pretty absurd to think there is one.

yeah, you kinda did. If you claim the default position on life after isn't "i don't know", then you're claiming to know something I don't.

So now you have to provide evidence to support your claim.

It's a pretty simple concept, either you know or you don't.

Please provide one of those studies for scrutiny.

@OP: It's really not that hard to know when a person dies, and it is almost impossible to not-feel the change when one is holding that persons hand. That feeling, strong emotions and belief together are more than enough to cause hallucinations.

As for your mom, start maintaining a journal of whenever she gets "a bad feeling", then note how many of those checks out. Also look for environmental cues, like if you have a very sick family member and your mom knows that, then notice if the "bad feeling" doesn't happen after a few days of suddenly not getting any news.

Life is the functioning of a body, when the body stops functioning life ends.
Until you can prove otherwise that is what happens, can you show otherwise?

Thought not.
