The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Isn't this every religious person?

Get what you want = prayers answered, thank you god, I owe you one.

Don't get what you want = gods will, don't question, just accept, I'll try better.

Your FIL may have it bad. Why didn't he thank god for beer clouds?
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

I think you are worrying about a hill of bananas here. Just ignore it, that is really the best policy. It's not hurting you, so why bother?

It IS hurting me.  These self-righteous idiots are passing laws to make people kow-tow to their fairy tales.

Well obviously, in that case. However, in the case you mentioned I don't see how that hurts you. You are letting it bother you.

My father-in-law is really bad at this.  Anytime we get rain or something and he doesn't want it to rain, he says it's because God is punishing him.

Example conversation:

"I wanted to paint today, but it's raining.  God must not want me to paint."

Pretty much verbatim there.  Apparently God cooked up rain specifically because one person wanted to paint, but he didn't want them to.   I'm wondering just how much a god would care if someone decided to PAINT.   Enough to send an entire storm through a large area?  Seems pretty important.

I mean a lot of religious people tend to have a high opinion of themselves, because they think they're so special because God created them specifically.  But this goes even further into the territory of ridiculous.

because there is some level of narcissism of wanting to feel special because they are taught to feel that way.
Atheism is a non-prophet organization join today.

Was he serious or just expressing frustration? My family do the latter all the time, heck even I do it. I don't literally believe God must want [insert boiled ocean here]. It's just a dramatization of my current, temporary feelings with intentional humor.

Make sure you aren't making a mountain from a mole hill.

Nah. I bet he believes it. I used to believe that way. I was one arrogant idiot thinking I was being humble.

You thought you were being humble seriously assuming God was causing a condition that effects many people just because of you? How old were you? I know ZERO people of faith over 5 years old who express anything like that seriously and literally.

Really? I do.
I believed stuff like... maybe the bus didn't get here on time because the god was saving me from something. Dude. You know "ZERO" people who believe that? Fuck outa here. I live in a Catholic dominated town where adults believe in prophets of this day today and they believe in ghosts. I find it hard to believe you.
