My only additional recommendation is to dual-boot with GNU/Linux (Mandriva, Fedora, Sabayon, and PCLinuxOS are great). Of course I have to say that because I advocate FOSS Smile Anyhow, I seem to agree with your choices except the RAM. Do you really need 8G or memory? 4GB is plenty unless you intend to use it for a sever, but you aren't doing that since you have games and W7 listed. That's about all I have to say as of now. If I think of anything else I'll post again.

I chose 8 just so I wouldn't have to worry about it for a little while. I would boot all Linux but can't justify it without the ability to play my games easily.

Thanks for your input!

8 gb is worth it. I've tried running Windows 7 and all of my myriad virtualization, server utilities, etc and I am always swapping at 4gbs.

Personally, I'd prefer a radeon HD56xx series for my video cards.

Starcraft 2 ran perfectly, though (at high settings), on two crossfire linked HD3850's at a gig of video memory each.

Damn, haha I wish had all the money to buy parts like this. You must run a lot of virtualization to be swapping at 4GB.

So from your guys experience do you think that rig I just posted will be able to play starcraft 2 at high settings perfectly? What about Fallout New Vegas? I know the requirements but would like to know some first hand knowledge. Also for fun how would it fair against crysis?

Thanks!

(I don't play games, but I know stuff :/ )
Starcraft 2 on the highest settings possible or just high settings? High should work, and highest may lag a bit but should overall be fine. A friend of mine tried Crysis on a rig of similar strength, and it faired very well indeed.

I see no reason why that set up can't play pretty much any game out there on the market. Something to consider, though, if you have the money. I have four 500 gig harddrives set up in Raid 10. I prefer a Raid system for my hds because it runs faster and is striped, so if one fails, I can replace it and don't lose any of my data. It's is a bit pricey but worth it when you consider the protection it adds. I'm assuming that the hd you have chosen is a SATA hd. Is that correct?
