Yeah, it was a big deal, and Tricky Dick had a front row seat,

-but-

from Nixon's point of view it all added to the posthumous glory of President Kennedy. Who had beat him to the presidency in 1960.

It stuck in his craw !!!
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
