There goes Kevin Spacey's career (Sexual misconduct)

Expect a number of your childhood heroes to be exposed as sexual predators. Expect more because celebrities are worshiped in America and thus get away with far more.

The Guardian published many stories about Jimmy Savile (who was fucking knighted, for god's sake) when his despicable behavior came to light. The scary part is that his crimes were made public only after he was already dead. So he got to do whatever the hell he wanted with few if any consequences. And Bill Cosby - he's pushing 80; accusations against him go back 40-50 years with no consequences other than hush money paid during all those years.
I have zero sympathy for any of these predators. I hope they're all brought down.

He was like really up to her skirt fondling her legs and she wrote about him "he turned into a real hot dog" and yet no accusations on him.

I think I remember a controversy about it flaring up in 2003, when he ran for governor of California, but it didn't go anywhere.

By "how it will go down" I mean the scale of the abuse, how many other people were involved, coverups, etc. While Jimmy Savile's crimes were only discovered after he had died, many other celebrities in the UK were still alive and found as part of the investigation that started after Savile's death. I expect a number of celebrities in the US will suffer the same fate.

You know, Hollywood's been working under the assumption that celebrities are more or less above good and evil for the better part of a century and they've been known to literally get away with murder (just look at O.J. Simpson.) And I suspect that if investigations end up being as thorough as we'd like to be, it'll probably be a bigger question who ISN'T taken down by the scandals.

I'm happy Netflix has standards. Firing Spacey was very well timed. I was beginning to worry it had imitated Hollywood too well.

And, honestly, now that Trump (who has all the morals of a Svidrigailoff or a Stavrigin and all the grace of a wrestling villain) is in the White House, Frank Underwood's portrayal of an evil President seems almost quaint. I just hope they can tie up all the loose ends for Season six, because even if the star is guilty of heinous crimes (which seems likely) the fans should at least get a proper resolution to the story that's been going on for four years.

OJ was just another form of entertainment, being an American footballer (not an actor), but your point still stands.

I seem to recall an old ditty about "Another star is born on the casting couch". Dodgy

It seems that deference/worship to/of royalty/religion still exists in the US, whether it is royalty/religion/sports or TV. Parse that at your own peril! Tongue

I do personally consider OJ part of the Hollywood circle; after all, He did have a sizable filmography, including supporting roles in the Naked Gun trilogy, And a brief role in the first episode of Roots. And Then, his murder trial became its own form of entertainment, one that has come to dominate the news media's rhetoric on celebrity crime, one that seems to revel in the prospect of someone accused of a crime being punished.

When I was younger, my mother used to watch a block on HLN I liked to call "Two Hours Hate," because, as different as Jane Velez-Mitchell and Nancy Grace may seem at first glance, their shows were largely interchangeable, two women reporting on crimes with such vitriol that you almost began to feel sorry for the monsters they rightly reviled. And it stopped being almost when it turned out some of the people they fingered Were actually innocent (see the Duke Lacrosse scandal and Grace's reporting of the Elizabeth Smart case for more details.) it became clear that's they didn't really care who was guilty or innocent just as long as someone was punished for the horrific deed of the week.

Both shows are off the air, but I'm concerned that this mentality seems to be alive and well when we talk about such scandals. I just hope we can take the time and investigate what happened before we jump the gun and decide someone's guilty or innocent. At this point, it seems very likely that Spacey's guilty, but jumping to conclusions (especially in matters like this) is a fundamentally dangerous thing, even if those conclusions are right, and it is statistically far more likely than not that the people who come forward are telling the truth. Let's just see where the evidence takes us beforehand we break out the pitchforks. I hear the London PD are looking into it. Let's see what they have to say.

They're considering killing him offscreen (in the show). Nice and tidy.

Kevin Spacey's career died when he did KPAX, btw...since then he's just been channeling it's ghost. Wink

And hopefully, the show runners will find a way to kill him off and do it right. Honestly, as long as I've been watching it, I've fully expected it to end with Underwood being assassinated. Really, he's an expy of Richard III; it should be expected.

If all goes well, they should find a way to balance out the needs of the show with the need to not associate with a likely sexual predator, because it's annoying to see a work get finished like a patchwork quilt because the star died, and it's doubly annoying when it turns out that it's only the star's career that died.
