Minecraft anyone?

I don't know how many people play video games on here, but I'll assume a reasonable amount do. I also don't know if anyone has played or seen a game called Minecraft.

It's an indie game (don't judge) by a guy called Notch, it's a survival/epic/building/awesome game. However currently in Alpha, so there's a few bugs and features still to be implemented. The aim is to build a little shelter and survive Zombies, Skeletons and Creepers. The graphics may seem 'dated' but once you play the game they become second nature. As you progress through the game you find materials, like iron or diamonds to make tools. And your little shelter becomes bad ass and you reach a level of awesome. Minecraft has some cool features like the ability to use logic gates to run machinery or making traps for animals or monsters which want to mess with you.

This shows what the world generation engine can do (aside from creating maps 8x larger than Earth) as well as some of the houses and other creations you can make. I've created a few neat little things, nothing as impressive as some of the stuff in the video mine you (get it? I made a funny). Anyway if you're interested the game is €10, which is 50% while it's in Alpha testing and you can buy it here. If you would rather have a test you can play what's called classic, which is basically a freebuild game mode you can also go to the site and have a look as well, although it's not nearly as good.

I bought Minecraft a few weeks ago, it is a fun little (well maybe not so little) sandbox game. My girlfriend kept making fun of the primitive graphics and the apparent pointlessness of it all.
"What the hell is this?"

"Minecraft! I'm building a castle!"

"Why?"

"'cause the zombies!!"

She didn't think my castle was awesome. It totally reminds me of playing with lego when I was a kid.

Don't forget those creepers as well, I must of had my house blown up a bajillion times by them. The graphics suit the game, if it was more like Gmod etc it wouldn't have the same feel as it does with the little cubes.

The graphics are awful...

I enjoy a good creation game, but a significant part of creating things for me is in the art of them. Given a (huge) graphical revamp, bug fixes, and what have you: Minecraft might be interesting.

Until then I could barely stomach those graphics.

As I said before, Minecraft's graphics suit the game. The graphics allow for the ultimate buildings, they don't have the limits like a game like gmod has. The main bugs in Minecraft are related to the mutliplayer mode and will all be sorted by the beta. You only need to play the game for an hour or two to realize that the game is amazing, and the graphics just make the game flow.
