How is believing the sun to be revolving around the earth any more stupid than believing the earth was created 6000 years ago?

No, it's not. More than one in three Americans believe the earth was created 6000 years ago.

The difference is in Russia, the population as a whole is at least adaquate to the task of letting mass media hold up prevelance of belief in things like geocentric cosmology and creationism as evidence of the society's inadaquate scientific literacy and need for improvement. But in the US, even this minimum level of adaquacy is not present and no mass media dare call out the creationists for the society disgracing ignoramus that they are.

Good for russians! In Turkey, we have 60 percent(maybe more) of people who thinks that evolution has been debunked years ago.. Humans are way too overrated..

Really!
Could you post the debunking, or does it in fact not exist(as I suspect).

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

You're right, my bad. I wonder what it would take in the US for the media to start bringing issues of inadequate scientific literacy and creationism to light. I don't see it happening any time soon.

Also, do you think creationism generally goes hand-in-hand with geocentric ideas? I've met creationists who at least were aware that the Earth revolved around the Sun, and even acknowledged the solar system. But of course they thought it was all 'put there' by God just the way it is. I guess there's just different degrees of stupidity, people always picking and choosing what they want to believe.

Hey, give the Russians a break. They have a lot of catching up to do. They were very busy with non-education type stuff during the 20th century. You know, like genocide and communism.

Seems as if they have embraced stupidity with a Tea-Partyish enthusiasm.
