There is NO short cut!

There's a huge problem with your little hypothesis. Food is so processed I wouldn't be suprised if I bought a salad and there was a lump of lard in the centre of it. Unless you get something straight from the farm it's been pumped full of chemicals.
I believe you exagerate for comic effect.

Even if you believe all food sources to be tainted, I am certain that a balanced meal with fresh veg would be better than a savaloy with chips.

You see fit slim people all over the place, where do they buy their lard-free salad from?

Or perhaps they also suffer from lard contomination but just eat less of it?

Eat less, exercise more. The evil equations of calories in versus calories out. It's not easy, but it's also not complicated.

It is your problem, but if you do yourself damage then you are less able to do the exercise you need to stay healthy.

I may be wrong, but everything you've said in this thread strikes me as procrastination. You moan about how food is contaminated or you can't exercise because you hurt yourself, it is all just petty reasons to put off actually doing something about your health. Huh

You *know* smoking is bad for you (how could it not be?) but you will find little reasons to have another quick puff ("I'll stop this weekend", "I'll just finish this packet" etc).
Same goes for food. You *know* what is healthy to eat (and its not pie & chips) but you put aside the big problems and pick at the small ones "I can't tell if this salad has a bit of lard in it, I'll just have sausage, mash and gravy.".

There is only one person who can help change your health for the better and that's you.

I have a question, if you don't actually enjoy smoking, eatting and drinking, isn't that enough of a motivation to get you pass these demons?

My "sin" is Sloth and despite my malnurished state I guess I am Gluttony to sweet things. I prefer not to drink alcohol, smoke, or drugs... like normal people because I didn't give into the peer pressure as a young kid. It was more than just knowing the facts, it was purely because I didn't want too.

Sure I like to eat chocolate everyday and sleep in til 4pm, is that a crime?

Anyway if you really wanna make some changes, it all about will power. Sure you can get help, their are many habbit quitting services out their to help get of cigs and stuff like that, you can ask for help but it's all down to will power.

And at the last moment God takes all the credit.

The reason it's hard to lose weight is because the only reliable way to do it is to improve your eating habits and get regular exercise. It's extremely simple, but also extremely difficult. There's no way around it, if you want to lose weight, you need to get off your ass and do something for yourself. It's an mental battle more than anything. And it's 24/7.

I'm in the midst of such a battle. It's hard to resist a tasty burger on the way home from work. It's easy to play a few more hours of Geometry Wars instead of going to the gym. You just have win over procrastination.

RE: smoking, eating and drinking
I wouldn't tackle all those 3 at once, full-speed. More specifically, I am not tackling all 3 of those like I should, but here's what's helped me when i didn't feel like going on a full-scale diet.

I got roughly three rules for food:
-stop eating before I feel full, eat enough to be ok, but left with the feeling that I could eat more.
-when i have the choice, i pick non-fried food, with as little fat possible.
-junk food once or twice a week
3 months into it (plus walking up stairs to the 3rd floor of my gf's flat) I had already lost a good measure of my "love handles."

As far as my smoking is concerned, I won't stop yet, because frankly, I don't feel like quitting, so I can't help ya there. I am aware, however, that quitting now will be easier than quitting in a few years, so I'm 'mentalizing' December as my quitting month.

As far as drinking is concerned, just be aware that whatever you put in, will make you fat. Have fun and drink a lot but less times.

I think sex helps too.

Once you see progress with one thing, you'll feel more motivated to keep going, and perhaps trying tackling other things.

That's just my 2 pesos.

Hmmm...let's see.

"Bricktop, did you injure your back in a childhood accident which has keeps causing severe pain during exercising?"

Yes

"Have you got a gym membership?"

Yes, however the building has been demolished because we're building a swimming pool for training during the 2012 olympics (I think)

"Did you play Rugby?"

Yes

"Do you do pushups on a daily basis?"

Yes

"Do you enjoy hiking and walking?"

Yes, I enjoy long walks around town, I've climbed three mountains and go hiking in the highlands of scotland.

"Have you seen a nutritionist?"

Yes

Of course it's procrastination.

For the exception that I drank about 3 bottles of fresh orange a day, ate watermelons, grapes, oranges etc. I spent about £350 a month on fruit and veg for the whole family.

Don't you fucking dare think I haven't tried.

I never said I don't enjoy them. Actually they're great fun.
