RE: Atheism & Bisexuality
I would say there is no link between the two...However, just as stated before, an Atheist is more likely to be more open about his feelings or thoughts when it comes to looks, sexual feelings, etc. towards both sexes compared to a theist.
I am attracted to women and always have been, but I can tell the difference between an ugly man and a handsome one. (If that makes any sense to you all).... I don't believe it makes a man gay for showing affection in friendship to a man (A hug, kiss on the cheek etc), or even telling his best friend that he loves him as a brother. Call it the feminine side of a man or whatever, but I believe it's more healthy to show your love for your fellow male friend than not. Now of course that's only if your best friend felt the same....lolol... I can just imagine me going up to some of my male friends I have and giving him a kiss on the cheek and telling him I love him for who he is as my friend..... I'm sure I would leave with a black eye or two, and be less one friend...OLOLOL Intelligence is the only true moral guide...

RE: Atheism & Bisexuality
I frequent an asexual website, and there seems to be a distinctly large population of atheists there too.
I wonder what that means? Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Pretty sure true asexuality is rare. My guess is that most of 'em are suppressing their sexuality. That means they will all turn into serial killers and/or molestors of sheep and domestic pets.( I mean the ones who have not already done so) ![]() Addendum: Just had a look on Wiki: Quote:Asexuality is a sexual orientation describing individuals who do not experience sexual attraction[1][2] or do not have interest in or desire for sex.[3] Sometimes, it is considered a lack of a sexual orientation.[4] One commonly cited study placed the incidence rate of asexuality at 1%.[5] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexuality |

RE: Atheism & Bisexuality
With all due respect, most of them are not lying or deluded.
Yes it is rare. In your post you mentioned that approximately 1% of the population, according to some sources, is asexual According to you, what is "true" asexuality supposed to be? The message board I go to just defines it as "lacking sexual attraction". It doesn't strictly mean being for all intents and purposes an android. Some of these people have romantic relationships and attractions to other people based on things besides sex. Others don't even have a romantic drive. Some consider themselves "demisexual" - a kind of grey area. etc. etc. And really, when it comes down to it, why should it be perfrectly acceptable to believe someone is sexually attracted to the opposite sex, the same sex, or both sexes, but somehow preposterous to believe they are attracted to neither? Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

RE: Atheism & Bisexuality
I agree LonePiper.
And I will add that it is impossible to suppress desires that are not experienced (~ "do not experience sexual attraction[1][2] or do not have interest in or desire for sex") as Padraic suggests. The accusation that therefore they all must turn into serial killers is plain sick and reminds me of pre gay liberation reasoning. The accusation that therefore they all must turn into serial killers is plain sick and reminds me of pre gay liberation reasoning. Oh for goodness sake,my post was only half serious,in that I was doubting that all the members of such a forum were asexual within the meaning of lacking sexual desire. OF COURSE I don't know for a fact.I'm quite aware as a general principle I was using argument from personal incredulity,a logical fallacy. As for saying they'll all going to become serial killers, that's called "hyperbole" (gross exaggeration) a form of humour,or a normal advertising technique. THAT point was that sexual desire may not be simply suppressed long term without some consequences. Another, arguably healthier way of dealing is called SUBLIMATION. That you don't agree,or lack the wit or knowledge to understand doesn't make an opinion 'sick' merely different. From wiki, for your information: REPRESSION Quote:Sexual repression is a state in which a person is prevented from expressing their sexuality. Sexual repression is often associated with feelings of guilt or shame being associated with sexual impulses.[1] What constitutes sexual repression is subjective and can vary greatly between cultures and moral systems. SUBLIMATION Quote:Sexual sublimation, also known as sexual transmutation, is the attempt among some religious traditions to transform sexual energy into creativity, thereby facilitating a mystical awakening. |
