Geoengineering ...

RE: Geoengineering ...
Sorry I picked yes by accident... I meant no. I don't see any reason why we need to manipulate the Earth at all. Humans need to stop their thinking that they are some kind of god.

We are not god, we are god of gods. We created all the gods there ever were.

Are you serious? Put down your clothing, turn off your appliances, leave your home and go try kill shit with your teeth to survive then, because the only reason we are NOT doing that is our ability to manipulate the environment.

As long as it is in our interests to survive we will do whatever we can, if that includes firing tons of sulfur into the atmosphere so we don't die from an overheating planet then that's precisely what we'll do.

I see your point but I remain skeptical that we should go further then we already have... if scientifically proven safe then I suppose it's fine.

The only way to actually prove it safe is to do it and see if you are still around to debate whether it was safe. The question is given what we know, would the alternative be likely to be, including opportunity cost, more harmful, costly or dangerous in the long run.

It might be the case that it's our only option.

We could probably test it out in a controlled highly precise replica of the Earth that's exactly to scale.

Or a sufficiently accurate and detailed numerical model on a sufficiently powerful computer.

Or just wait until we've got no other options... That way it doesn't matter if it might not work or might do harm, we're going to die anyway.

But think about the forms of life that we could harm with it that wouldn't die out along with us... they count too.
