If a gun is in a locked safe it is irrelevant if it is loaded. It should however NOT have a round chambered. If there is a fire - you don' t want rounds cooking off in a chamber - endangering first responders. Revolvers should be unloaded.

Bullets cooking off in a fire make noise but are of little consequence.

Even so, if it's a good safe, the slug won't be a danger.

In a really good one. Most of the cheaper ones won' t stop a 3000 fps bullet..

And some rifles with the right ammo will ventilate any safe.... 

I have an old Swiss K31. A very interesting military gun. A straight pull bolt action. Match grade. ( all Swiss military rifles and ammo are). The standard ammo the Swiss issue has some kind of odd coating on the bullets. Ballistically is is equal to 308 NATO. But it has terrific penetration. I have a hardened steel backstop that is set up at a 45 degree angle to deflect bullets into the ground. Old US made 30-06 armor piercing (black tip) just bounces off. The factory 7.5 Swiss makes clean round holes. My handloads with FMJ bounce off...

Go figure.
