Ask away.

There are places better to live in than America?  Say it ain’t so!

It ain't so, unless one is an infant born in impoverished conditions; things can get to be a bit tricky in such circumstances.

What do you like better there?

First and foremost, the people here are for the most part, warm and friendly.

Life is simpler, and slower paced.  Within two blocks of our home, I can buy fresh produce, fish, coffee, etc.  Within our neighborhood, we have countless restaurants, representing cuisine from all over the world.

I wake every day to the sound of birds.

The fact that Mexico is one-fifth the size of the U.S. with near twice the population density may have something to do with it. In that respect it's comparable to Europe.

The move was largely driven by opportunity. It had been my plan to retire here since the mid 90s, but remote work made it possible to literally live wherever I want to. If that opportunity had not presented itself, I would be grumbling about the state of the union from my suburban home in WA state.

I can't say that there's one singular thing that stands out, expect perhaps that America writ large appears to pride itself on being different from our international peers in the shittiest way possible.

Would you have liked to have grown up there, or is this more about life now in (semi) retirement?

I recognize that I'm privileged to be able to do this. Statistically speaking, had I been born here, I would likely be poor. On the other hand, the best parts of living here don't require wealth.

It's a good question, I wish I had a more definitive answer.

Where in Mexico are you living?

In urban Puerto Vallarta, half a km from Banderas Bay.

When you consider that most of the population is clustered around urban centers, I suspect you are right.

Metric versus English units of measurement; definitively a plus!

Two Mexico-related questions:

I heard you can get prescription drugs in Mexico without a prescription? Is that true?

How is the weed there?
