The stodginess of chess has been a real turn off to my teenager. When he and his friends play over the board there is trash talk and laughing, jaw busting stuff. They rag on each other for blunders and punctuate every move with "braaah," which, I'm told, is a sound adolescent males make when enjoying activities.
His take on official over the board tournament play? No fun.
Chess's ebb and flow has the game in a popular moment. We should be attracting more players instead of dredging up culture war nonsense. Keep the game fun.

If its a male to female trans that makes sense there would be some pushback.
They'll be against less high competition in the female division than the males.
They'll immediately be playing relatively easier games

I just found out there's going to be a season 2 of 'The Queen's Gambit'. Wonder where they will go with the story. I thought it was a limited run series and was all wrapped up.
