Welcome.

I still use phrases involving mention of "God" and sometimes remember my formative years at Bible camp, even their songs.

It's just a component of who you are. Nothing more, nothing less.

Welcome to atheistforums.

I say "Oh my god" and "Good god, man." No big deal. I also absolutely love Ave Maria. Religious people do not have a monopoly on words and art. I am sure plenty of them enjoy art and sayings by atheists and don't even know it.

I like a couple of religious christmas songs because they're pretty songs that remind me of my childhood. I don't think you're betraying yourself or an idea by enjoying the minuscule amount of positives that come out of any given religion. You're all good.

Even I've been known to say "Jesus Fucking Christ!" when I hit my thumb with a hammer or something.

Don't worry about it. It means nothing.

You haven't been an atheist for many years at all. You have been an atheist since the last change in your personality significant enough to declare you a new being.

A former you was an atheist back then. And we could so easily argue that a future you is a christian. The long past and the far in the future are irrelevant to who you are now Smile

The community replies: "Hello, and we hope you brought some more cake, Sae ate all the others, and we'd like a few slices now".

I imagine a typical man's response to that is "Oh man... I just

Its cool man. Dont let the asshole Christians make you feel bad about it. The cool christians are better to hang around. The cool christian friends I have know Im an atheist, so I will say "God bless America", and they get the humor involved with it as well.

Its just part of your upbringing. If it makes you feel unconfortable now, then try to faze it out of your foremost thoughts. Regardless, you can never get rid of it, because it is a part of you.

Welcome, good music and positive lyrics never hurt anyone, doesn't matter who made it, just that you enjoy the good things in life.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
