What's your stance on bringing back extinct species?
March 7, 2024 at 5:37 pm
Considering that they are planning to bring back mammoths what is your stance on all that?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Given the shrinking habitats for most animals now extant, it seems like a silly exercise in what could be done. Can be, but should it be? Not in my opinion.

I am not in favor with two caveats:
1. The candidate had been a vital specie in a still existent but struggling ecosystem, and there is strong economic case to be made for restoring the ecosystem and doing so requires restoration of the lost keystone species.
2. There is very compelling reason to believe a extinct species by itself has potential for extraordinary economic value, such as certain plants may have important pharmaceutical uses,

There’s no need to bring back extinct species - CGI is getting better all the time.

Mammoths could have a profound impact on the ecology and economy of appalachia and the midwest. They were the primary habitat creators and seed dispensers for a once vast forest of large fruit bearing trees and veggies where nothing but plain and scrub exist now. The trees, in particular, are only about 50 generations out from the loss.
I'm underselling it when I say that mammoths could save the fucking planet.

Nope.
That's one derangement I don't have.
Anyway, don't dress at all if you're going to kill someone in a messy way.
Kill.
Shower.
Dress.
