To help me do so, I'm currently reading about the issues in "The Bible Unearthed;Archaeology's New Vision Of Ancient Israel And the Origin OF Its Sacred Texts" Israel Finkelstein (interviewed in the documentary and Neil Asher Silberman.(Touchstone 2002)

It is good to hear more people reading that fantastic book.

Atman, if you're into it, you might try "The View From Nebo" by Amy Dockser Marcus.

The ability of religious shitwits to cherry pick applies even to archaeology. Two examples:

A few years ago Israeli archaeologist, Amihai Mazar, found the remains of ancient apiaries (bee hives) at
Tel Rehov in the north of Israel. Xtian assholes instantly started in with the "Honey?" "Milk and Honey?" "The bible is PROVED!!!!" line of shit....ignoring the rest of Mazar's find which included altar's decorated with naked fertility goddesses. No way do xtians want to hear that shit so they just blocked it out.

Secondly, the Tel Dan stele: The earliest apparent reference to a Davidic dynasty, fundies love to jump up and down and shriek that "David has been PROVED!!!!" which, of course, he has not but then they fail to understand that the inscription on the stele contradicts their precious bible story.

As always when xtians are involved a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and they strive to acquire as little as possible.

I do, because it is some the best most stimulating televison produced anywhere.

David attenborough informs more in one hour long documentary than 100 discovery channel specials.
Then you have Dr Who who never solves problems by using guns, just his brains.
Horizon studies scientific controversies and genuinely gives boh sides.

British TV is great.Big Grin

The BBC in no way gives religion in general, or a specific religion, excessive air time. It represents the views of (whether we like it or not) a fair sized part of the population proportionately. I see no reason why the BBC shouldn't show religious programmes. You don't have to watch them, in the same way I don't have to watch any of the shit I don't like or agree with or in the same way a religious person probably dosen't want to watch (or fund) documentaries that are against their views or standpoint. To ban something because it dosen't line up with your ideals is the exact sort of bullshit many of us hate about oppressive and fundamentalist religions. If we are all paying to fund the BBC it is only fair that all sides of a subject are told.

well i happen to disagree with this for the sole reason that i think religion is wrong from the start. it's fine giving both sides of a point, but when one side of a point is blatently WRONG or if you like unproven then why the fuck should it be given the time of day?

if 99% of the country said they wanted to watch a program telling us about the existance of invisible pink unicorns i'd sure as hell be just as annoyed if it was shown when it's being paid for by me. sorry, but that's just where i stand.
