This is not a twisted view at all, because to think that God got involved in the founding of a country, while said country was cleansing the earth of red people, seems to go against everything Christians claim their God stands for. Since the founding of this country was bathed in blood, why would God have any part of it? I think it's funny that you think god would help people write a constitution while they were in the middle of wiping out an eitire race of people from the planet. Why would god, in his 'infinite wisdom,' help the building of a country founded on disobeying the sixth commandment in the most disgusting manner possible? Do you think he was really up there thinking, "Well, they've got the right idea so even though they're slaughtering an entire race that I created, I'm going to make sure they do this thing right?"

To believe God helped form the constitution and made sure that this country was founded on Christian principles, is to believe God ignored how this country got started with genocide, or to claim that the way the country was founded was applying Christian principles. And I don't know why you would think God would get involved anyway, because to quote you again...

Quote:...why do you think God is responsible for what ignorant men do with or in their lives?

That is my question and you haven't answered it, God had and has a purpose for this country and in His own way guided it's rise, the purpose that God has and the actions man takes upon himself can and most often conflict with each other. I do not believe that God wanted the Indians treated the way they were and I myself find it to be a horrible thing. Yes I do believe many christians were involved in the terrible treatment of the Indians because they viewed them as inferior, this is not a reason for such action but never the less it took place and I'm sure not to God's approval. Greed does not know very many bounds with most people and thus the results of how America treated the Native Americans. God is not responsible for man's actions just as a parent is not responsible for the action of a child.

RE: Signs you're a fundamentalist Christian
I hate it when people don't understand what being a fundamentalist means. It means you believe in the fundamental teachings of the religion. It is not necessarily a bad thing at all. Nobody would say, "that guys is such a bad football player, he practices the fundamentals of the game too much." A Christian Fundamentalist believes in and puts emphasis in...

1. Faith Alone, Christ Alone, Grace Alone, Scripture Alone, and Glory to God Alone.
2. The Triune God of the Bible.
3. Jesus was the Son of God, God incarnate and was the foretold Messiah.
4. The teachings of Christ and of the apostles in their letters.
5. You have to be a Republican to get into heaven....ok that's only a joke Big Grin

RE: Signs you're a fundamentalist Christian
The typical definition of fundie around here is usually -

Fundamentalism refers to a belief in a strict adherence to a set of basic principles (often religious in nature), sometimes as a reaction to perceived doctrinal compromises with modern social and political life.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_fundamentalism

A set of religious beliefs based on a literal interpretation of the Bible and regarded as fundamental to Christian faith and morals; a 20th century movement among some Protestant sects in the United States.
http://asn.am/classes/standards/terms/r/r.php

-quoted from wiki

And also usually involves people not changing a particular belief or ideal despite mounds of evidence to the contrary, in effect denying evidence.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

"A lot of people are unwilling to acknowledge anything that contradicts their worldview. So telling them that it's false doesn't necessarily slow them down. That's how urban legends get started for the most case. Like the woman who supposedly put her poodle in the microwave to dry it off. And it exploded." David Mikkelson (snopes)

Yes, unfortunately it's a term that has taken on a meaning that does not really match the literal meaning of the word. It can make things very confusing I think.

The answer is that I don't believe God had anything to do with it as I have no belief in God. You, however, made the assertion that God helped this country rise, but why would he do that all the while the natives were being slaughtered for this country to exist? If you want to make the claim that God was involved in the creating of this country, you have to explain why he was active in the building of a country whose foundation was the blood of the innocent. Why didn't God wipe his hands clean of the whole dirty mess? It's because you are American, and you believe God loves the same things you do. This allows you to avoid criticizing whether the foundation of this country actually fits into your God's ideals.

Then you claim God is not responsible for the action of ignorant men, but somehow he was responsible for the founding of this country, which was founded by the same ignorant men. You're simply trying to have your cake and eat it too.

Very insightful Tack. I see you have been paying close attention. As I have said before, I dont mind the cool Christians... it's the FUNDIES I cant stand.

Cool christians dont try to force their beliefs unto you, and usually have a sense of humor about their beliefs (something that I HIGHLY respect).
