Do they even have guards? (Kidding) And yet their recidivism rate is the lowest in Europe. I've long thought the prison systems in America need serious reform. Treating people like animals is going to result in animals eventually being released into the public. It's especially idiotic to incarcerate those sentenced to life without parole along side those who are short timers. Lifers have nothing to lose. They can do anything they want to anyone and except for being punished by being temporarily housed in Administrative Segregation (Ad Seg), there is no deterrent that can possibly intimidate someone who knows full well they have free reign to express their violent nature, because the only way they're ever getting out of prison is in a box. I'd like to see that Norway model open here in the States. Many prisons are now private corporate run facilities, so it's not beyond comprehension though the far right ultra conservative ilk would no doubt combust at the thought. Impetus enough right there, to go for it. "In life you can never be too kind or too fair; everyone you meet is carrying a heavy load. It plays absolute hell on behavior that I can understand by suggesting that everyone should play nice together or most people with a military will have you dead. As being even more idiotic? Haha. I'd withdraw the US from it immediately if I could, and that's even with the US being primarily responsible for the damn thing. War, I understand this. Temporary alliances? I get it. Even longterm relationships between countries... I can appreciate those. But this mass-forever-psuedoalliance... all it says to me is that "we're all pansies that couldn't defend a country by ourselves". Which means they do not own their countries.
