A Reintroduction.

A Reintroduction.
I only thought it polite to (re)introduce myself to you good folks, seeing as it's been over two years since I've last posted here. I had thought about those members I had been friends with, during the last two years, and hoped you were well.

I must be honest and say that I left because I didn't want to lose my belief in God. Having discussed various topics about ID, creation, Christianity and evolution on the forum, I could 'see' how atheism was a possibility and I felt a 'bleakness' of life, that I hadn't felt before. I didn't want there to not be a God, and I still don't. I dug my head in the sand and went back to flirt with Christianity and try to really 'believe' in it properly. I got baptised, went to meetings regularly. Did a bit of street preaching one day (well it amounted to handing out a few leaflets!!) and yet the doubts remained. My dad became terminally ill not long after this, and in my greatest hour of need, God didn't seem to draw near at all. I've more or less given up trying to 'contact' God (or rather the God of the bible). I still believe in an Intelligent Designer (and evolution).

If there's one thing I learned on here, you can't be content and at peace with yourself if you place 'feelings' over 'facts'. I'm still prone to do this unfortunately.

I look forward to continuing my pursuit of truth with the help of this community. Sorry I chickend out for a while there.....Blush

RE: A Reintroduction.
Welcome back. Caught you in chat a couple days ago. If you ever need a little help with that "bleakness" I can point you to a variety of reasons not to feel that way. After all, the real world is a really beautiful place.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Welcome back, I've been somewhere similar to where you are at in your faith and I'm sure many of us can empathize with you.

Actually it is really easy to cleav to feelings and bin facts and maintain contentment and peace... you simply need to stop thinking and avoid anyone who holds a different view than you.

There is no destination so getting there is all the fun.

I'm lovin the honesty I read in the post. I'm definitely a subscriber to laying it all out on the table.

Welcome back!

By the way, many of us have felt the way you do. Bleakness tends to go on its merry way when you realize that without religion hampering your decisions, you are completely and totally free to make your life whatever you want it to be. Stop worrying about dying and enjoy living.

Welcome back. Don't chicken out anymore. Atheists in this forum are not scary people, IMO. I'm not scary either. Smile
