Whilst watching the news, it was said that some people thought that we should (in the UK) bring back corporal punishment, due to the apparent lack of discipline in UK society after the recent riots.

To clarify first though, I want to know people's opinions on corporal punishment in classrooms as a disciplinary device to be used by teachers. Not at home or when used by parents. Maybe that can be done in another thread.

Interesting to note that while the EU is generally moving away from corporal punishment and the death penalty and generally has a low violent crime rate, the USA pushes more of both and has the highest violent crime rate in the industrial world.

I wonder if those are related.

Such behaviour is extremely rare in Europe, it is all too common here.

Bear in mind the UK government has pointed blame at Research in Motion, because the Blackberry has encrypted messaging service and they implicated some Blackberry users in the looting. Now they want all RIMs records; presumably with all those CCTV cameras in London, anyone caught using a Blackberry during the time of the looting will be subject to summary arrest.

It's not the lack of corporal punishment, it's RIM's fault.

Spanking the adult looters (such as the numerous relatively wealthy folk like real estate agents and such that were involved in the looting) would have worked well I think. Pull their britches down in Trafalgar Square and televise their spankings.

What I find surprising about the poll results is that 20% of children are in favour of cp returning!

What I find amazing about poll results is that people actually pay a blind bit of notice to them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I saw this poll earlier today and the poll was done of 2000 school children and parents. That is approximately the size of ONE school.

Tell me how this apparently represents the thoughts of an entire population of people.

Why are you getting touchy bozo? Did I offend you? Sincerest apologies.

Correct me if I am wrong but I was not aware I said you 'claimed' anything at all. I was just asking why we should pay any notice to such poll results.

Don't let your beef in other threads flow over, if you disagree with someone I've found it's best to try and rationally discuss it with them. Only when they are not receptive to such a thing should you resort to the Ad hoc attacks
