Mt. Everest has around 200 dead bodies (pics)

Climbing with me really depends on one thing:

Have you gotten me into a traditionally reckless scandinavian 'I'm getting this done' mode... or not? If you have, I will seriously get down quite safely and at speeds that terrify you. If you have not: I will no go until I feel secure with what I am doing.

You really won't need me to remind you if you're climbing with me... you'll know how dangerous I am if you've done any form of difficult physical work with me. Never a danger to others, mind... only to myself. I'm quite proud of how fearless I am in the face of performing a job Smile

I wouldn't think summiting the highest mountain on earth would be a goal so unworthy that giving one's live in it's attempt merits a cynical snicker.

Every climb above 21000 feet seriously jeopardized one's life. Few would undertake such a risk to one's owe survival just to recover the Husk of one who is already dead.

A few years back they made a documentary out of attempts to climb everest, so they can haul all that video equipment up and down but they can't bring back bodies? Bullshit. 25k a head but no money to buy a hacksaw and a plastic bag, bullshit. Hell, in '02 a group of 50 people made it to the summit. Was 3 lbs a person going to endanger their lives. No. This is a strange sort of apathy in tourism. Apparently 150 people make the summit every year, and I can't help but think that the bodies add to value of the experience, or they wouldn't be there. Obviously this is my own hangup, but it's hard to imagine that in the thousands of people who've made the summit, there aren't some folks who would like to bring these people back down. I know it's not simple, but neither is climbing everest right? We don't balk away from things because they're really really hard. Just seems terrible to me, is all.

You can't saw a dead body into 5 man-portable loads like you can with camera, film, lens, tripod and battery. In any case, you can't find venues for charging $10 a head to see the dead body from everest as you can to see an IMAX film of where the dead body had lain. Details, details.

But apathy in tourism is not leaving a deadbody where it lays, but leaving a climber in distress to die so one could summit oneself. This happened not long ago, when a commercial climbing outfit taking paying customers up to the summit came upon a lone descending climber who is clearly in distress and unable to continue on his own hey. The commercial climbing team probably could have help the lone climber get back to the base camp, but most of the team would need to abandon their own summit attempt. They decided instead, coldheartedly, to press on with their summit attempt and leave the climber in distress to die. Their actions resulted in a rebuke from Edmund Hillary himself.

Every everest climber knows one in six of those who tries dies and most of the dead bodies are left where they fell. So it's unlike those who would be daunted by the sight of the dead would have gone far enough to see a dead.

People will disagree with me but the whole idea is stupid anyway. Why climb the mountain anyway??? To say you can? To beat the forces of nature? Well guess what that mountain doesnt give a FUCK what you just did, and neither do most people. I cant name one person whos climbed it even though I know over a thousand have done it. I guess some people really enjoy it and its for personal pride, but i would only go towards danger to save someone else or get laid.
If I die and god is real, im so screwed.

1: It's challenging. Can you climb a mountain? Honestly.

2: If you did, then why not say you did? It's an accomplishment, see challenge above.

3: It's very difficult to top the forces of nature... not many can do it. See accomplishment above.

4: Most people don't give a fuck that I exist. Does this mean that I shouldn't involve myself with people?

5: I can't name one person who went to war against Napoleon. So?

6: Some people do infact really enjoy it, and it does provide a strong sense of pride. What you would do... is entirely irrelevant to what they would do.

7: Mountaineers 'save' and assist others not infrequently... and plenty of them get laid. It's quite a pickup line, really: 'Babe, I climbed mount everest. I'm quite certain I can keep going till you orgasm (several times).'
The himalayas are not a joke, you know. I sincerely doubt I could solo climb Everest today. 29K feet is a 5 and a half mile climb, followed by a similar descent. In snow, cold, and low amount of oxygen. Weighted down by climbing equipment and snow gear.

I sincerely doubt you can solo climb Everest if you can't wear medieval armor and jog ten miles with energy to spare. Why? Because you don't have the stamina to climb that mountain.

See the problem with how you responded there is that you took other peoples opinions on the matter and based it off of that. When we all know of course, my opinion is the only one that matters.

Why would your opinion matter when you don't matter? Big Grin

But why the fuck bother? It's not a useful accomplishment, and it endangers your life so if you have anyone who cares about you it's just being selfish. We should develop aircraft that can land at the summit instead.

You'd be a winner for developing it, but a loser for using it to summit. Big Grin
