I don’t know why we couldn’t.

L. Ron Hubbard did.

Perhaps your own influence was biased in favour of atheism, or more precisely: science. Our current culture is becoming increasingly inept at thinking outside of scientific restraints. I wonder if we could still come up with the genius of religious texts, let alone even appreciate them.

What is this, "outside of scientific restraints." you speak of? Your idea makes my colorless green emotion furious!

Why don't you talk about colors we can't see or unhearable sounds.

Hi Frodo

None-overlapping magesteria is a bullshit idea for dodgy people like you. Both concepts of religion and science are meant to encompass all that is "real" so there is no need to talk of things outside of religion or outside of science, like they are ships passing in the night.

Bullshit if you dismiss it indeed Rhiz. But how you are dismissing it is with science based reasoning > illogical. There's more to our experience: we don't have to be trapped in one dominant viewpoint.

100Facts Wrote:You cannot, however, expect most 12 year old children to sit down and absorb all of Thomas Paine's Age of Reason in one sitting. http://www.ushistory.org/paine/reason/index.htm

I can. If by 12 you can't read such a simple thing as Age of Reason by the noted author... you're stupid. Not that it is exactly the world's most popular book... I mean: it bores me to tears. I have exactly zero interest in religion.

To improve '100facts'... i highly recommend it involve the things that teens are interested in. And drop the atheist bit in the title... as it will ensure the book is only read by atheists. And instead of 'must'... write it 'should'. This way it is a suggestion... not a demand. So 100 Facts Every Teen Should Know. More likely to sell, see? Smile

And the more... the better. Write 10 times this much, and it will be 1000 Facts Every Teen Should Know.... just make sure they are all facts Smile Better than 'facts' would be 'things'. 1000 Things Every Teen Should Know. I'd go with 1000 Things A Teen Might Want to Know... to imply that it is material here for you 'if you want it', and it personalizes it more... an attractive message to people who are gagging on biology textbooks being forced down their throats.

@FTM(<--this is an unfortunate abbreviation...) one doesn't need to be specifically taught critical thinking skills to achieve the ability to think critically. Smile
Off topic... anyone ever deepthroat a biology textbook? Let me tell you if you haven't yet: it's not fun and it isn't going anywhere.

We are indeed trapped in one viewpoint. That of our existence here, on this world, in reality. If you want to leave this world you should have become an astronaut.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Wait I've changed my mind NOMA makes perfect sense only there are three magesteria: Science, religion, and super-religion

So not only do science and religion not overlap, but religion and super-religion are seperate things only apprehendable by the soul (for religion), and the super-soul (for super-religion) the super-devil has been fooling us by using our super-soul to confound the perception of our regular soul. Only through the power of pancake consumption can we release our colorless green emotion from its furious sleep and perceive the tendrils of super-God working within, but not interfering with science and religion. Wait, if there is a super-religion there must be a super-science too...

Somehow the unmovable, moved part of my brain fails to not see what can be said about bleep bleep bleep error critical failure in colorless green emotion.

/sarcasm

For those that wish to know more about colorless green emotions, Noma, or theological noncognitism here are some fun links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-overlapping_magisteria
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorless_g..._furiously
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theological_noncognitivism

There ARE more things to reality than what science knows, yes; but the things that we know about that have an effect on our reality are mostly documented by science or at least hinted about by mathematics.

Rhizo, we are of course mistaken about it all. Every last bit.

Ah yes, what can be known fits on a pin in a world that is a disc riding on elephants backs who stand on a tortoise flying through space! One chip equals three bisquits. "We all peer at god through our assholes in the flashbulb of orgasm, the fact that some people think of god as a persistent ontological reality rather than the brain's attempt at cognition of the unexplainable confuses the shit out of me."
