What Use Is Half an Eye? Or no eye at all?

What Use Is Half an Eye? Or no eye at all?
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/201...111538.htm

Quote:Most animals react to light and have developed a very sophisticated way of seeing complex images so that they can function in their surroundings. Good examples include insects' compound eyes and the human eye. Charles Darwin and other evolutionary biologists were bewildered by the eye's complexity and wondered how this kind of structure could have evolved through natural selection.

But some creatures, such as sea urchins, can react to light even though they do not have eyes. Previous studies of sea urchins have shown that they have a large number of genes linked to the development of the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue in the human eye. This means that sea urchins have several genes that are coded for a widely occurring eye protein, opsin.

Fundies will be back to proclaim how the human eye is the pinnacle of "creation" of course.

Living creatures have found ways to make use of photo-reactive cells since the dawn of time. Flora has no use for eyes but plenty of use for chloroplasts, all forms of higher life depend on just such a use.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

If he thought, he wouldn't have ended up nailed to a plank like a ghastly specimen of dilusional mental illness.

Cool stuff. I never knew that before.

Since sea urchins do not have eyes, evolution made them in such a way so that they can 'see' with their whole bodies. A theist such as myself, however, could also argue that their ability to see even without having eyes is one of the possible signs of intelligent design (while viewing evolution as a means of creation).

No doubt my urge to fart in public is also a possible sign of intelligent design.

Yep...nutty theists can always figure out a way to shoehorn their particular deity into anything.

You do have a hole in the back to let it out whenever you feel like it. The only problem is that it smells very bad sometimes. Tongue
