RE: Your Artwork
Yeah, I'm self-taught at almost everything I do.

It takes a wee while to get the hang of it if you have never used it before.

That first pic you posted with the killer bees is very cool man, how did you go about working that one up? was the background pre-existing or did you create that from scratch and are the bees all your own creations? were you a traditional artist before you started doing digital art?

are you self taught on photoshop man? did you find it hard to transition from physical media to digital? thinking of getting a wacom tablet and learning how to do digital art, it cost alot less, materials wise

As long as you have an artistic mind - you'll transition just fine. I know a couple guys who know photoshop pretty well, but they suck at creating anything very interesting because they don't have an artistic mind - just the technical know-how of using photoshop.

The background is a sphere with clouds texturemapped on them. The bees are modeled in 3D studio and then imported into 3D studio max for texture mapping and better Inverse Kinematics. Once I got one bee done, it just is a case of copy/paste and setting the wings etc a little different. The final rendering was also done in 3D Studio Max.

This was done back in 2001 I think, so I'm certain 3D programs have improved greatly since then. I did a little work in Lightwave 5.5 after that, and a year of working with Maya (which I loved by the way, the dynamics engine was superbe), but decided that it was enough so I stopped 3D modelling completely except for testing concepts for new robot designs in Lightwave sometimes.

I did no artwork prior to 3D modelling, and I am very bad at 2D art. Texture mapping is not my strong suit either but given enough time I can usually make scenes look as I want them to.

Wow, Jay.. I adore your style, it's fantastic! Heart
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

cool, that's a great idea, I'll keep an eye on the thread and see how you guys are getting along with it, it definitely has potential to be really interesting. I really like the decorative tribal art studies you put up there too, very nice Smile
