You don't know these people, you are not responsible for supporting the child which you think should be born and you are not getting up at 3 in the morning to feed it and wipe its shitty diaper. What gives you the right to have an opinion on what someone else should do. This was just my opinion (which is mainly due to my adherence to Islam), but I'm not going to force anyone to act upon this opinion. So, I do agree that a woman should be allowed to make her own choice on abortion irrespective of my religious beliefs. Also, being a parent is tough and I understand the reasons why many people don't want any babies. And like you said, I am not responsible for what they do. Their lives are not my life. You're right, I should have included that also. I think that mental and physical capabilities are equally important. However, I observe this from an Islamic point of view, and that's why some of our other opinions on abortion will go in separate ways. For example, Muslim jurists have agreed unanimously that after the fetus is completely formed and has been given a soul, abortion is a sin. But the sin also depends on how long the baby have been in the stomach. Some scholars have said that an abortion is prohibited for a Muslim after 40 days of conception because that is when the soul enters the body (according to certain Hadiths). Now, of course, you don't have to agree with any of this and I know that you won't because you are an atheist. I'm just giving my own perspective even though it may be useless. |

RE: Abortion: Pro-Choice or Pro-Life?
I'm pro choice, because I have personally been through abortion, very late stage. I was pro choice before as well. Right wingers don't know they've been born.
'This was just my opinion (which is mainly due to my adherence to Islam)' See why secularism is good? 'For example, Muslim jurists have agreed unanimously that after the fetus is completely formed and has been given a soul' Nice guess work! Thank fuck Islam doesn't rule the world. Yet. |

But the choice isn't her comfort or financial stability, it's the life of the child. |

RE: Abortion: Pro-Choice or Pro-Life?
When you think about it, Abortion has to qualify as the ultimate disproof of god.( the abrahamic god anyway)
God has an ultimate plan for the universe, according to the xtiains anyway. This plan being perfect(since god is perfect) requires that EVERYTHING plays out exactly as god intended. So everyone ever born has a place and a purpose in that plan. Ipsofacto, to cause that person to die before birth is to directly disrupt gods plan. Which you would think would piss off god a lot. So why doesn't he prevent abortions happening? And it is not enough to say that he will punish the perpertrators afterwards. That's bullshit, because his "divine" plan is still going to be fucked up. So either there is no divine plan and therefore no god. Or god plans for abortions to happen. |

Surely those Jurists have also suggested some reliable means of testing, so that we know the criteria have been met when considering a woman's eligibility for an abortion? A soulometer perhaps? There's something very strange when you refer to people who are talking completely out of their ass as "jurists" and trot them out as an authority on anything (I'm completely unconvinced that these people are even qualified to speak about their own religious beliefs). |
