I am a 17 year-old, recently de-converted atheist. I live in a family of Christians, and my dad has told in no uncertain terms that I am unwelcome because of my atheism. If it were up to him legally, he would kick me out right now.
He has restricted and censored me, and so I can turn nowhere else except the internet.

Thank you all for just existing; that, of course, is more than I can thank god for. Tongue

Welcome

Welcome Lehrling! I am a believer in Jesus, and if you were my son, I would not ask you to leave. I wouldn't act the way your dad is, as I do not believe that is what Christ would want. He is probably shocked that you dont believe anymore. You and your dad will be in my thoughts (and prayers of course).

Welcome Lehring.

Im and atheist(duh), if my kids wanted to be Christians or Muslims, I'm cool with that, I'd try to disuade them and would probably tease them, but it's their life. Shame your dad is too pig ignorant to see that.

You have a problem there... He is dead... All he wants are your brains.

Welcome to our getaway from all things religious, except of course the tactful theist groupies we have.

I was trying to remember if Jesus addressed parenting at all, so I googled it.

On the off chance that Cox talking to her pillow doesn't help, here's some advice that might actually be useful.

If you're feeling alone at any point, or if things do take a turn for the worse and you are forced to leave home, be sure to look up secular and atheist societies near to you. They may be able to help you in ways you never even thought of. At the very least you're likely to find other people who have been through similar things to you.

Either way, welcome to the forums. We don't put up with that sort of shit. Where are you from anyway?

Welcome to the forums, Lehrling!

I am so sorry your dad has decided that you becoming an Atheist is a reason he should disown you or try to kick you out. That is just terrible. I can't imagine. Sad I hope he wakes up and realizes how much of a jerk he is being. How does your mom feel on the subject?

And for now, at least you have us! We won't kick you out!!!

Um, Luke 14

Quote:25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

I'm sure you believe this horseshit happened, Cox. You may have to get with your boy's program.

Lehrling's dad seems like a fine, jesus-approved, xtian asshole to me!
