On Catholicism!

RE: On Catholicism!
I'd agree with that Adrian.

I would actually say to my atheist friend that the preacher wasn't committing a Christian act by shooting his congregation. Christians, per se, are capable of anything. they're only people after all.

We mistakenly attribute the label 'Christian' to mean purely Christ like, when no one actually can be that.

What I'm talking about when referring to Catholics though, is something different. Catholic means to me a member of the Catholic church. It isn't, to the best of my understanding, a requirement of membership of the Catholic Church that you aim to follow Jesus as expressly stipulated in the Bible. That you make a conscious decision, entirely under your own steam, to believe that Jesus died for your sins and you act on that.

Uniquely Catholics substitute the definition 'Christian' with 'Catholic'. The Christian label is the important bit. the denomination not so. Not since the reformation has the Catholic Church been considered the one true church. It's can no longer claim the title 'Universal'.

RE: On Catholicism!
I useally hear that people use the phrase "Catholic christian", "Protestant Christian", "Orthodox christian" and so on.

Christianity what I know is devided into diffrent groups and each group have their own definition on what christianity is.

Given that the Catholic Church claims to be founded by Jesus in 33CE and also claims to be based on his teachings (via St. Paul) then I think it is reasonable (despite your objections) to consider them as Christians.

Even if they didn't "entirely under your own steam, to believe that Jesus died for your sins and you act on that."?

That would be more than odd to me.

If I understood that I might be able to comment.

To be honest I have no clue either. Can you rephrase that Fr0d0?

LOL ..I'm struggling too! Wink Seemed clear at the time!

to re-phrase the first bit, as that didn't help..

Even if they didn't "entirely under their own steam, believe that Jesus died for their sins and acted on that."?

That would be more than odd to me. (i.e. it would be odd that they considered themselves Christians as well as universal church members if they didn't practice conversion)

All Christianity was born via Jesus himself. I don't think what became known as the Catholic Church was established as such until about 300AD, with the compromise with Rome to share power.. Christians claim common ancestry with Catholicism. I don't think there's any real argument until the reformation, although the allegiance with Rome seems a particularly anti Christ move. The early pope's certainly don't sound like they were on plan
