xmas

RE: xmas
Hi guys, this is my first post. It's basically what paved the way for the adoption of Christianity. No Roman would want to give up Saturnalia or the festival of Sol Invictus etc. So Xtianity said 'Don't worry, you can keep all those 3 day weekends if you convert' so then the change was easier.

I think Atheist should come up with a similar approach. Xmas should become the Oxytocin celebration fesitval where we give gifts to loved ones. Easter could be the stearate chocolate festival, where everyone eats chocolate.

It worked for the early Xtian church, it could work for us too! Cool Shades

Thanks
Andrew

RE: xmas
It seems to me that xmas is whatever one wants it to be. The holiday has become so pwned by so many people, for so far too long, it is this whatever is whatever one wants to make it of it.

I call it "Santa" just because it seems like a good name for it.

Here's an interesting link about the pagan (specifically Roman) origins of Christmas.

I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

We have a Atheist-week
March 20-26th is "A" Week for Atheists all over the world.
As Atheists Atheist-Week support, we must inform people all over the world.

Reminds me of how I used to annoy people who would wear a large cross around their neck. I used to take the opportunity to ask "hey, what's the "T" stand for"?
The looks you get are priceless! Tongue

So All Christians wearing a cross, may be called Xtians.

I think a reasonable definition for Xtians. Smile

Yawn yawn yawn. Brainwashing what a lame argument. Whether Christianity is true or not - lets agree on this, your atheist, secular existence is empty, vapid of anything truly real. Its all about fulfilling carnal desires - getting that next high, the hottest hookup, the coolest gift. That's all bullshit.

If its between the secular world or not I choose God. If you'd like to be happy and have meaning in your life, you should do the same.

i completely agree! pagans, corporations, christians! at the end of the day, modern christmas is how you interpret it and choose to celebrate it (if you do at all).
whether or not you have personal qualms with celebrating the holiday is a different matter. to be honest, i have more issues regarding thanksgiving than i do christmas, but that's just me. i don't make it a point to do either unless my family throws a fit. Wink
could i get a drink and an ashtray?
