Sorry, but one must look at the root cause, which is the set of beliefs from which these people are acting. And Christianity is a set of beliefs that is not supported by evidence. It is full of superstitions, misconceptions, and distortions. It is used to enslave people to a doctrine. And its aims is to be looked upon as the only truth. As far as I'm concerned, its practitioners, whether they are fundies or the ones just paying lip service, are to be treated with suspicion.

And you can substitute the word "Islam" for Christianity in the above, and I would come to the same conclusion.

But all you can see is that atheists are beating their chest, thinking they are better, when in reality, there is a real danger out there but you are too blind to see it.

What i said : "i don't think all Christians are dangerous"
What you understood : "i think Christians are not dangerous"

See the problem ? The difference ? Because my opinion differs from yours, i must have the complete opposite opinion ? That's insane...There is such a thing as "grey" !

As for the religious, the vast majority does NOT act from this set of beliefs. If they did, New York with its 80% of Christians would not have legalized gay marriage. And Christians would not have sex before marriage. Or use condoms. Or any of the thousand forbidden things in Christianity.

Thinking Christians actually follow the Bible is simply wrong.

Quote:How about someone like myself Rwandall, with a view that the most saintly and decent of christians is, at a very fundamental level, a bigoted piece of shit that gives consent or respect to concepts like ethnic cleansing, genocide, apocalyptic annihilation, scapegoating and thought crimes? That's the thing, I don't need the worst examples of any religion to come to my point of view, I just take their text, and their faith in their text at their word. Maybe they don't actually believe or feel all warm and fuzzy about any of that shit, if so, I'd sure as hell like for them to speak up and be counted. Otherwise I'm pretty certain that any actual apocalypse is going to find it's triggerman from within their ranks. Life denying fuckers. They'd rather see this place and everyone in it that disagrees with them burn than consider that they may be wholly incorrect.

You're wrong. Because they don't follow their text. 80% of US Christians think that people from any religion can go to Heaven even without being Christian. How about that ? 80% of Christians are in direct contradiction with the very essence of their religion, what does that tell you about how "zealous" they are ? People don't give a shit what the book says, they don't follow it. So judging them by what's in the book is just plain silly.

How about the fact that the Westborough Baptist Church is condemned by pretty much every Christian organization ? Even Fox News spits on them ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEGLFJ-Nqq4 ).

And the moderates do speak up and are counted. Problem is, we don't hear the moderate views because we only see the extreme view of every subject, since the vast majority of people who bother to argue about it are those with extreme views.

And the argument that the "moderates" accomodate the "extremes" and as such are accomplices is absolutely insane. Does the fact that PETA supports violence mean that any person who is pro animal rights is an accomplice in their crimes ? No.

What you're saying is that no one can have an opinion on any subject, because if someone causes violence in the name of that subject, it makes you an accomplice. People have done bad things in the name of pretty much every single cause known to man. That makes all of us accomplices of murder, right ?

Perhaps, but that is far from your first post on this thread. Let me repeat it:

(November 28, 2011 at 2:35 pm)Rwandrall Wrote: This article is just as bad as a theist saying "an atheist cannot even COMPREHEND what it's like to have faith, the poor, sad, ignorant fools !"

And the fact that some of us indulge in that kind of mental masturbation should be a source of worry.

Villifying the religious as a whole as intellectually-stunted simpletons is being a bigot, intellectually small, and very, very irrational.

The article was about someone who was celebrating his life free of religion. But you jumped on it as if it was some kind of manifesto against all christians. It wasn't, and your reaction was overboard.

Quote:See the problem ? The difference ? Because my opinion differs from yours, i must have the complete opposite opinion ?

Never said that.
