Surely the system rewards those who work hard and punishes those who do not produce. |

RE: All hail American capitalism!!!
This is what you get from corporatism unfortunately. Someone needs to close all the loopholes and make taxation simple again.

Doesn't make it the cause. I'd say the cause was political corruption.

Well, the vast majority of Americans agree with what you say, so I am in the very small minority on this one. Personally, I consider them dead wrong. This is the direct result of capitalism, as in the golden rule "He who has the gold, makes the rules." Political corruption cannot be weeded out from a system that is based upon profit, in a system where some are winners and the rest are losers, there will ALWAYS be political corruption. the winners will always pull the strings, and the govt will be shaped to fit the winners needs and wants. |

RE: All hail American capitalism!!!
That's why I'm in favor of brutal dictatorship.
Where each law is far more brutal and punishing than the last. Men are forced to work. Women to breed. (Or vice versa depending on whose in charge) Everyone to worship their gloriouis leader as a god and accept their rightful place. After all, the secret of government success is the brutality. |

If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925 Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan |
