MicroRNA has been in the news a lot lately. In one article I read it is credited with the 200 million years of animal evolution that led to the Cambrian explosion. In another it explains most of the differences between humans and chimps.

It is now know that what was once considered junk DNA plays an important part in both the embryonic development and evolution of species. This non coding DNA is what turns the production of the proteins that control growth on and off.
