RE: Why Do Otherwise Intelligent People Succomb to Religion?

Indoctrination or wanting something to be true. Wishful thinking, belief in belief itself as a good thing... and also the fact that emotional thinking can lead to many false beliefs and you can be intelligent and still succumb to Emotional thinking....
...furthermore highly intelligent people can also succumb to fallacies and cognitive biases.

Chad, I wouldn't say it's the only one, if you prefer to be exact about these things, but it's certainly the most rational one by far, given the lack of coherence, let alone that of evidence, on the part of (mono)theistic ideas.

Believing despite the lack of evidence and in the face of contrary evidence isn't exactly rational.

When compared to religion, atheism is the most rational. No question.

Actually, let me rephrase that, Chad, because I can almost see what you're driving at here. And what I have to say to that is you can still have wonderful subjective experiences without presupposing the truthiness of certain irrational qualities of the natural world.

Wow, it sounded so grammatically incorrect, though. xD
