Considering how essential the internet is to modern life, that's a stupid thing to say. It's not like in the 21st century, the internet is still this special and obscure thing that a few freaks sometimes use for fun.
Yeah, sure. Most people do their banking, watch youtube videos and have their real life friends on facebook. Those are people who use the internet and then there are people who 'hang out' and socialize with anonymous strangers on the internet. If you can't take the occasional 'kill yourself' on the internet, maybe you aren't cut out to have an internet social life or especially write humor with public comments. I mean, what were they expecting?

Yeah, sure. But there are people who use the internet and there are people who 'hang out' and socialize on the internet. If you can't take the occasional 'kill yourself' on the internet, maybe you aren't cut out to have an internet social life or especially write humor with public comments. I mean, what were they expecting? You mean what am I expecting? Dude it's kind of demeaning to watch you have this conversation right in front of me, with someone else. Seriously, I'm right here, you can ask me these things, I'm not an idiot. I can have a conversation.
If you're wondering why I would hang out in public hang out spaces on the internet, well let me first say that I do spend a lot of time in those places. I have had a lot of things hurled my way, a lot of it much worse than that.
Why would I choose to hang out in a public space? Because all my friends I know irl aren't very good. Yeah I know some people, but they're not people who I really like very much, or who seem to like me. So yes, I do like to spend time in public chat rooms. It's an easy to way to get social interaction, in our very lonely world.
Something about this particular comment from this person was so bad, it seemed to penetrate to the core of my brain, which just completely undermined any sort of positive self esteem or positivity I could could have been feeling. Yes, it completely defies all of my expectations and logic, which is why I decided to make a thread about it.
What I did not make a thread for, is to have people argue about my competence right in front of my face. I don't know what your intentions are and I'm sure you're a very nice person. I'd like you to know how it makes me feel though, I'm sure you have plenty of respect and dignity to show. Thanks.

It's an internet forum. I'm having a conversation with him because he replied to what I said. That's how they work. What else am I supposed to do? Maybe you are just over sensitive. Actually that definitely is the case. If you don't have friends in real life that you like, hang out on the internet all the time where people are mean to you and you don't like them either, the problem is probably with you and not with everyone else.

Well, you said "what were they expecting" which seemed like kind of a gotchya question to Alex K, because how could he know what I was expecting? Only I know what I was expecting, so you should ask me next time. Okay? Thank you.

See, being offended by someone saying they instead of you when I was actually talking to someone else.... I mean yeah, that's waaay over sensitive. Maybe the internet is not for you. In real life people tend to be nicer and politer so if that's what you are looking for, it might be better for you to spend more time off line.

In real life people tend to be nicer and politer so if that's what you are looking for, it might be better for you to spend more time off line. You see, you don't know what my life is like. That's not up for debate, that's a fact. You don't know what my social life is like, you don't know what I'm like as a person. So, do you recommend I go and meet people outside of the internet? Okay, well, I'm not sure how it's so easy to you. Last time I walked up to some people who I knew from high school at a concert, they rejected me and basically made fun of me. They wanted nothing to do with me, all the other people I approach are usually the same way. I'm a very awkward person and alone a lot in the world, you don't know anything about my life. So, maybe you should be more aware of the things you don't know, instead of asserting your conceit on others, okay? If meeting people outside the internet was so easy, I would probably not use the internet to talk with others, like I'm doing right now.
Btw, it is insulting to me, I am a sensitive person, you're demeaning that aspect of me as if it's bad, to add insult to injury. Shame on you.

Late to the party.
1: I'm a little dense. Please explain the joke. I may have something smarter to say.
B: Remember that when attacked (deserved or undeserved) sarcasm can be your friend.
Next: You have the ability to turn the net on and off as you please. Not hard to ignore someone in networld if you want.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

It sounds like you are too sensitive for areas of the internet that allow a large degree of freedom of expression.
I don't really understand it though when you say the worse insults didn't hurt you as emotionally as this insult. Surely by definition what makes an insult worse than other insults is how much it hurts you?
The only other two variables which would affect how hard the insult hit you I can think of would be how sensitive you were feeling that day, or the tone of voice in which in the insult was said.
As insults go it isn't really bad. It's common on the internet. It's not personal, like he isn't saying you're overweight, ugly, stupid. And plus this guy was a stranger I'm assuming from how you told the story. So a stranger said a none personal thing to you that was obviously either a joke or something he said because he has mental issues either due to being raised badly or some genetic disorder or something.
Do you even know how old the guy was? If I heard a joke I didn't get now I wouldn't tell that person to kill themselves but I might have said something like that when I was aged 11 to 15. I remember the first thing I ever did on a chatroom when I was 11 was private message and american and message him saying "You dickhead" Then when he replied back with "What's your problem man?" Me and my friend were laughing hysterically with excitement.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
