Do you know what Phosphenes are? It is not woo. Comes from Greek meaning to show light.
Phosphenes are very interesting to look into (Pun intended).

Researching Phosphenes is interesting. Light and geometric shapes coming from the mind. The same shapes seen all over the world. It has been suggested that prehistoric drawing and paintings are representations of phosphenes.
Looneys have been around for a very long time.

I just found this:

According to Lewis-Williams's theory, the enigmatic geometric shapes (entoptics) evident in prehistoric rock art throughout the world indicate the first stage of altered states of consciousness as the shaman prepares to enter the spiritual or supernatural world (Lewis-Williams & Dowson 1989: 6063).

Neuroscientists have reproduced these effects in laboratory conditions, which corroborates Lewis-Williams's shamanistic theory, since it implies that these experiences are common to all human beings, including early humans, as they share with modem humans a common neurological structure.

https://www.thefreelibrary.com/The+archa...0381835838

Lewis-Williams and Dowson also suggested that the experiencing of phosphenes by shamans was probably (that's 'probably', not 'possibly') enhanced by hallucinogenic drugs.

But phosphenes aren't mysterious and have bugger all to do with 'other dimensions'.  Pressure on the eye can cause them, as can magnets (as well as the drugs referred to earlier).  They only seem mysterious because ignorant, lazy woo types can't be arsed to do a bit of reading in actual science - it's much easier and more comforting to build piles of nonsensical rubbish around a common and well-understood natural phenomenon.

Stage one: Darkness
Stage two: Sprinkles of light.
Stage three: Bright white rainbow light.
Stage four: Non-physical eyelids open.

I think Buddha knew this. Because it is what sounds like meditation. I think listening to breathing, counting, mantras, or visualising will not get the same results. They are replacements and not the complete removal of thought and becoming selfless as needed.
It is said that state of mindlessness can be achieved after many years of practice but can be impossible for most people in a lifetime.

If you close your eyes and look deep into the darkness you can feel your eyes change position. Listening into the darkness will tune out outside noises.
You are searching within yourself. That is how selflessness can be achieved.

It's like if you hear a noise or see movement outside your window on a dark night and try to identify what it is. Then your thoughts will disappear as your senses and focus are directed into the darkness.

At sometime phosphenes will begin appearing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphene

Colourful lights drifting in the darkness moving and changing shape. They last longer by not following them or they can quickly disappear. Keep looking straight ahead and use peripheral vision to watch.

At sometime another light will appear from straight ahead. A white light. It moves forward by allowing it to happen and retreats by analysing it. Let it do its thing until it comes forward and fills all vision.

It is a white light but when close up can see it is all colours of the rainbow and the colours are constantly folding in on itself (like kneading dough).

Then your (non-physical) eyelids open.

Did you read up on this particular technique or did you just "stumble" upon it yourself?

Because I feel inclined to suggest that all of these lights you're seeing (even in simply walking to the kitchen) may actually be a sign or symptom of any number of physical ailments or disease processes. Have you shared any of this with an MD in an attempt to rule such possibilities out?

Anyway, go on.
Your non-physical eyelids open, and then what?

There are techniques that a person can use to produce this experience. It's not difficult, but it does require patience and a quiet mind. Still, if you set a camera up before you entered state, and let it run while you did this...you'd notice that you never left the frame.

Never went anywhere. Never stopped, slowed, sped up or otherwise altered time.

I prefer the hermetic approach. A chair on a cliff, every thought an envelope that you let loose to fly off in the breeze, followed by envisioning yourself as a glass figurine, with a ball of liquid sun in front of you. With every inward breath you draw in the sun, and when you're filled with light..you take off.

That was my first big experience. After I jolted back to reality I found I was still in front of the TV and a friend of mine was laughing. So I wasn't even going to the kitchen. I didn't talk much after that but later that day said what happened. I was told my eyes were open and I looked spaced out for a while before jolting.

I later stumbled into what sounds like meditation. I don't drink much and got quite drunk. When laying in bed I started seeing lights in the darkness of my eyelids. Speckles of light and mists of colours. I laid there and watched them.

The next morning I was thinking about the lights and of my prior experience of seeing lights I couldn't explain. I also thought about how quiet my mind was. No thoughts for a long time. I have a busy mind so that was new to me. I started doing 30 minute to around one hour sessions of just closing my eyes and looking. It was peaceful having my mind was completely still. Selfless. Then I started seeing dark on dark as in shadowy shapes in the darkness. Then I started seeing the lights again.

One day a white light appeared and it was different than others I had seen. I started often seeing the white light after that. It seemed alive how it would advance and retreat but I think it was my focus that was making it retreat. Then one day it was getting closer and suddenly rushed right up close and filled my whole vision. That's when I could see all the colours swirling around in its centre.
I gave into the light and let it do whatever. That's when my eyelids opened.

I thought nothing had happened until I got up and started walking then started feeling strange and freaked out a bit again. Closed my eyes and ended up back where I started so found I had not even gotten up. It took me few goes at it and I wouldn't look behind me because thinking about seeing myself creeps me out. Returning was done by closing my non-physical eyes and looking for reality.

I found my surroundings are where I am until I venture out. Then it changes and was the same each time. Its a forest. With people there.
They were just sitting or wandering around. I avoided them but would try to see if I recognise them but didn't. I thought I have seen a lot of pictures in my lifetime and my subconscious would have taken in a lot of faces.
It later got strange after something happened to me there that made me decide to start talking to them.
Not sure if I should say. Sounds pretty weird.

That's interesting. Yeah your body doesn't actually go anywhere. The transition isn't even felt.

Interesting method. Visualising?

I do know our existence can expand into another dimension.
I think Shamans using drugs to go to the "spirit world" is a variation of the method I discovered myself without the use of drugs. I'm trying to think about how time works there because I don't know. Lets keep the woo out of it for the moment and stick to the science.

Time is a really interesting subject how it is not a constant rate. I remember hearing time slows as speed increases and can actually stop reaching the speed of light. That is what the science says.

So sense of time and physical time can change. That's amazing.

I don't want to waste anyones time here.
If anyone here would seriously like to hear my method to go to another dimension I will share it. It would be interesting if someone wants to try it and report what they see and what experiences they have. For science.

and just like that it moved into woo territory.

Yeah, it's a visualization exercise that can help you reach a meditative state. One of the reasons it's a good one, is that you can set up a chair in a sunny window, and the position of your body in the chair and the sun on your skin reinforces the visualization.

If I had witnessed that (seemingly unwilled) event as you've recounted it, I would've considered the possibility that you'd had a seizure of some type. A sudden disconnected, "spaced out" look in which someone appears to be awake but is no longer responsive to normal stimuli can be a sign of seizure activity within the brain--Most people just to tend to associate seizures with the dramatic tonic-clonic jerking of major epileptic episodes.

I assumed that happened to you as a child, as you did mention it occurred when you were very young. Whatever happened to you as a kid could've been an isolated event and due to any number of causes, but if you're continuing to have similar experiences to this day, I think it would be in your best interest to relay those symptoms to a physician and get checked out--whether it provides a pathway to dimensional travel or not.

If it makes you deeply uncomfortable to talk about it, then I guess not. But if you're simply hesitant because you think it'll make you seem silly and cause people to doubt you, then I'd submit that such is already the case in some folk's minds, so so what? I'm interested in hearing  the rest, and I reckon a few others might be too. All skeptics aren't interested in shouting down claims without hearing them through. Real or imagined...you're leaving out the best part of the story, and perhaps the most compelling reason to give your technique a whirl.

Continue please, if it's not too upsetting for you.

Don't you see a problem with this; gift? If you are about to be eaten by a lion and you shift your mind state to an alternative reality then so much the better for your mind state.

Unfortunately: Your body and the fucking lion are in this dimension. As survival traits go, this one is as much use as tits on a fish.

Stoneheart, you have either:

a) Not given this enough thought.

b) Given it too much thought.

Evolutionary advantage isn't determined by individual fitness, but by the fitness of a population. We can discard notions of interdimensional travel since they're just not in any way an ability that the human mind possesses.

However, the ability to manufacture those alternative realities and hypothetical experiences, while it may not help an individual escape a lion, does help a population imagine a world in which they don't have to run from lions, and using that as a map, proceed to make this world into that world.

It's a bit like our innate aggression, as a species. It might not serve the individual aggressor well, but it gives the lions something to think about the next time it starts looking at a hut like a snack shack. While the majority of people who ever fought a lion or any other predator probably died, they created a situation in which even those who wouldn't fight back...maybe even mentally check out ( a common survival strategy - called "playing dead"), are protected by the inability of a predator to know which of the two types of human beings in this comparison it's looking at. The ability of one to inspire many...whether that's standing up to teeth and claws or helping others to imagine a different world - the benefits are clear.

Here we are.
