But, even if what you are talking about isn't a ciggaratte company  marketing ploy, it seems to be the same ploy.

The B&H promo was analogous to the Marlboro miles.

Are you old enough to remember then gas stations gave out dishes? Or steak knives and towels came in laundry detergent?

Yes. I’m also old enough to remember ‘Please allow six to eight weeks for delivery.’

"Free" givaways, or "incentives" of any kind have always been a staple of all marketing, even today.

I think the worst today are ads from cell phone companies. "If you just to this, or that, we will discount the billion dollar cell phone that shits gold if you drag another sucker into our company." And as long as you don't read the fine print, you wont realize that you just got a barbed wire condom stuck up your ass.

Glad to see your Random Though Generator is working to specifications.

The specification is randomized on a daily basis.

And Ranjr’s nut-skewering story is going to give me nightmares, I just know it.

Was the ram's name Jack Youngblood, Decon Jones, or Fred Dryer? I'd be scared too if any of them were chasing me.

Is there anything in your life you haven't been scared of?
