Job
RE: Job
The soul forge giving us cancer to test and prove us might be a bit different than keeping up to date on your flu shots.

This is anecdotal, just my experience...but people who try the soul forge line have rarely thought it through, and seem utterly incapable of taking it seriously.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. First, a satan worshiping doctor gets a needle, He then goes into a backroom where possessed babies are kept. He draws blood from said baby before killing it to appease Baphomet and to ensure the growth of Hells army.

He returns and injects you with the demon baby blood rife with sin, debauchery and evil works its way through your bloodstream. It overtakes your pure Christian blood cells in a miniature reenactment of the end of times. Eventually, the demon blood wins and creates 10 millimeter-sized clones of Astaroth. In turn, they cast an Eldritch barrier preventing covid from entering your body.

That's a carefully kept trade secret!

If cancer exists, for example.. to make us better and test us.  If this seems like a suitable explanation, then a person ought to be willing to literally give someone cancer.

We know better, as people, ofc.  Which is why the soul forge tends to come off like mealy mouthed bullshit.

How do vaccines work?

Nudger said that in order to be consistent in my view I needed to be willing to give someone cancer, well I don't think that would make them stronger in the long term. However, it has been proven that eating food which is unclean can make your immune system stronger, in the same way that a vaccine provides your body with a weakened version of a virus so that your immune system can learn how to fight that virus.

Ultimately Job's faith was made stronger, not weaker, by the suffering poured out upon him. And would if one man's suffering could inspire 10,000 more to lead a more virtuous life as a result? Job is a book which separates the wheat from the chaff, those who just want rewards for doing the right thing might not make it through tribulation if they believe in a simple God who always punishes evil right away, and always rewards good here on earth. Sometimes we have to wait longer than we would like for God's justice to shine.

This amounts to a divine threat, you realize that, right? If the only way God could manage to get 10 000 to lead a more virtuous life was by tormenting an admittedly righteous man (a man God already knew was righteous), it doesn't speak very well of God.

And what about Job's family? Murdered so that yhwh could win a bet with his servant, does the cruelty dealt unto them not make your blood boil?

The soul forge disagrees...doesn't it?  Or is cancer one of the senseless purposeless things?

Ah, so the soul forge might not dole out cancer, but it's absolutely in the business of food poisoning?

IDK about that, just on grounds of the narrative, Job went into it with a maximal faith.  That was sort of the reason for the bet between the two gods.  I do agree that stories like this can separate the wheat from the chaff - but probably not in the way you imagine.  As nomad comes directly to up above.

How long will job have to wait for justice?  The story ends and we never see it...though I'd suggest that waiting for justice from a being that cosigned the death of your family and your own physical agony to prove a thing to a coworker might be foolish.

Nah it actually simply makes Job sound like a Stockholm syndrome victim praising his abuser and makes go sound like an abusive dad who simply doles lollipops after they abuse. Which shouldn't be needed because i god was so great no one would ever doubt him to begin with a god who needs to torture and test people is a weak god.

RE: Job
I think that contemporary people have trouble articulating the faith expressed (or advocated for) in stories like those. They look for some good reason or justice - as we discussed earlier in thread the onlookers suggest as much repeatedly, and are consistently denied. The story makes it explicitly clear that there is no such ground to be had in the circumstances, but the contemporary mind seeks it out thinking (but likely not acknowledging) that this is an omission in magic book. They're wrong - it was the whole point. God is god - and that's that. The people who came up with these stories did not share our moral sentiments. The stories are meant to explain their own. They do a good job of it, and contemporary christians disagree with what they expressed. Not just the papists....lol.

That's a good thing....but fuck me if the afflicted want to hear it. Our new friend prefers an uplifting message from this one, instead. I get that.

That is a fractally fucked-up attitude.  Deliberately causing suffering is evil, and using deliberately-caused suffering to inspire others is even worse.

Why do you worship an evil god, h311inac311?
