Those Political Memes
RE: Those Political Memes
[Image: Owwwn.jpg]
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The average SNAP benefit in the US is $6 per person per day. If the recipients are freeloading, they’re really bad at it.

Non-husband relayed that some gov't official suggested that recipients do 13 hours of community service a month for their SNAP benefits.  I pointed out that would require childcare costs not only for the thirteen hours but also for travel time making it a loss for most, if not all, people involved.

Or look at it this way: The average US taxpayer spends $36 a year on SNAP, and $670 on corporate subsidies.

According to your GAO, 70% of adults in SNAP households work full time hours, but for shit wages. It seems extra cruel to make them work for free in addition to that.

Of course, the simplest solution would be a requirement that all jobs pay a living wage, but that’s just crazy talk.

Snap is, itself, a corporate subsidy - both for the product producers and the retailers who pay their employees starvation wages.
