Have I Told You At Least Once Today That I Love You?
#11
RE: Have I Told You At Least Once Today That I Love You?
I am always trying to surprise people in order to show them that I love them.

I just sent my mom a letter in the mail that simply says, "I love you Mama, Boudreaux." Nothing more. (Her nickname for me since I was 12 has been Boudreaux. I have no idea where it came from.)

I love doing things for others (I think it's some inner desire to please in order to feel worthy). So I love to surprise my girlfriend by cooking or building something useful for the house. She genuinely surprises me all the time when she puts on a dress that I haven't seen before or gets out of the shower and is completely un-self conscious.

I know my sister loves to give advice, so I call her all the time and get her advice on things like meal planning, gardening, or cleaning. And my little brother just loves to talk, so I have those conversations with him all the time, try to keep it the right level of small talk and meaningful things.

It is important to tell the people that you love that you love them. But the "staleness" doesn't happen if you keep it fresh!
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

My wife and I say "I love you" to each other all the time. I never tire of hearing her express her love for me in so many words.

Good on yer, same with us.

I've never understood the argument, 'I shouldn't HAVE to say it - you can tell I love you by the way I act.'

It's lovely to hear, lovely to say.

We say it all the time; plenty of hugs and kisses to go around also. I hold my wife's hand wherever we go and it's not uncommon to find short sweet little notes left behind. We've always had a "don't bother me at work" pollicy, but the advent of text messages allow a simple "I love you" to be passed along.

It's never routine and always sincere. I wouldn't want it any other way.

We say it a lot in our little family, both between sisters and sisters and parents and girls, not to mention husband and wife. But my Mom has actually complained of hearing it too often from the girls--wears it out don't you see? --- I don't.

Any thoughts?

I'm a big believer in saying it when I feel it, especially upon parting.

When I was younger I hardly ever said it. In some sense I don't think I felt qualified. Now I say it quite a bit. Something about not wanting to have regrets. Plus I'm pretty hard to live with so it only seems fair.

I've been in a couple relationships where I heard it so much I thought (and in one case asked) are you trying to convince me or yourself? In both cases, I was relieved when the relationships ended.

I'd hate to think it only ended because you both drove each other crazy saying how much you loved each other!

Yes, words can be so cheap sometimes, I feel that most people wouldn't have a clue what love is, they sleep with each other at a young age and all of a sudden their in love, I say its more lust that they feel, and hence so many divorces happening in the world.

To say it to someone risks them not saying it back. That my friend, is a downer.
