Got the kids off to school and I'm watching workmen put in a new set of stairs to our basement o.o I also have to pick colors today for two rooms in our house and do the laundry... So busy... I might practice my piano for a bit (one of my preferred forms of procrastination)... Better enjoy it while it lasts, tis the last week of school, so many adventures start next week!

Redecorating?

I am a graphic artist but my girlfriend is the one who is the real artist. Check out some of her stuff:

That looks really great! I'm very impressed. I love the cat ones.

I am a hardcore rock collecter and gemcutter.

I just went collecting flourite from a mine dump last week and was collecting nice quartz crystals this weekend. I am going to Mt. Antero in Colorado in a couple of weeks to collect aquamarine!

Got any pics of good stuff you've found?

Sweet! I've never gone on an organized rock collecting trip. Though I would love to do so if the opportunity came up.

I first began collecting around 7 years old. My dad was digging a hole in one of his pastures with a backhoe. I saw this unusual rock in the dirt pile he was making and grabbed it. It turned out to be a crystal clear piece of quartz. Good size too.

The problem was that there is no natural forming quartz in that part of Texas. Every documented piece of quartz located anywhere near where I grew up was dug up by archeologists excavating old Choctaw indian burial mounds.

From then on I was hooked. I've collected rocks from all over the world. And even out of this world.

Unfortunately where I live now is mostly just limestone. Good for finding old sea bed type fossils. But nothing much more interesting than that.

Always good to meet another Rock Hound.

We're having our basement finished... In the hopes that the Legos will now have their own space... That and to free up another room (where the TV currently lives) so the boys can each have their own rooms, they currently share a room with bunk beds... Doesn't work for us, every night is like a slumber party >.<

I can only imagine. Getting my brother to sleep in hard enough. If there were two, I'd pull my hair out.

Thank you, Savannahw. I just do it as a hobby. I've spent about 8 hours on it so far.

Drawing like this is almost like a form of meditation. You have to switch the hemispheres of your brain that you normally use. You go from your left hemisphere that is analytical to your right hemisphere which is creative.

One thing that disappears from your consciousness is an awareness of the passage of time.

It kind of feels refreshing when you come out of it.

I can only imagine. I'm not very artistically talented. So to me 8 hours is a LONG time. You have a lot of patience

We have a lot of limestone around here too. There are places with great calcite and barite and, of course, lots of fossils too. In fact, I am going on an organized dinosaur dig on the 20th! Can't wait. It will be cool!

We are also lucky enough to have, not too far away, some of the richest gold mines in the country and the mine dumps produce some fantastic specimens. My house is full of rocks.

If you ever need a custom cut gemstone for that special someone, hit me up. I cut everything except diamonds.
